TOLL BRIDGE MUSEUM
Subsequent to the theft of the entire ablution block and ongoing attempts to break into the building the Association has remove the exhibits and furnishings from the building and housed them at the local library where they are easily accessible by learners and the public .
As part of our drive to create awareness of the Dikgatlong area as the birthplace of the South African diamond mining industry we are canvassing funding of R3.5 million to renovate the museum site as an interpretive center !

THE FALLS OF GONG GONG

MANDELA / SOBUKWE EXHIBITION
The Barkly West Museum has concluded a hostjng agreement with the Nelson Mandela Museum, in terms of which the Mandela / Sobukwe Exhibition will be hosted at the Barkly West Library from mid January for a period of 6 months !
This will be a golden opportunity, both for our people to appreciate the pivotal contribution of these two men in the long struggle for equality and to introduce our youth to the culture of reading !

KELRN MTB CLASSIC
Today saw day 1 of the annual mountain bike challenge which, with some 400 riders from all provinces, including the SAPS National mountain bike team, and an estimated crowd of 1000, is the signature event on our local calendar which raises over R 400 000 in aid of children's charities.
Apart from the thrilling race itself, the Koeistal home crafts market, with a huge variety of home made goods, the wood burning Pizza oven, braai boma (this year featuring TV braaimaster Jan Braai) a craft brewery, and a host of side stalls made the day an unqualified success.

SUNDAY BLOODBATH
A peaceful riverside Sunday afternoon was shattered by gunfire as unidentified gunmen began killing the troop of baboons who have for years lived under the old toll bridge next to the Barkly West Museum.
Males, females and babies were gunned down during the 20 minute slaughter.
Apart from amusing visitors, the baboons provided early warning of intruders who have been targeting the Museum precinct.
Police are investigating
