As we continue to commemorate Youth Month, LGSETA is on the ground in Christiana today for the Try a Skill Campaign and Voter Registration Roadshow, led by the Lekwa-Teemane
Parliamentary Constituency Office.

This initiative is creating opportunities for young people to explore vocational skills, career paths and TVET opportunities, while also encouraging active citizenship through voter registration.

With National Voter Registration Weekend taking place on 20 to 21 June, now is the time for young people to step forward, invest in their future and make their voices count.

From KwaZulu-Natal to the Free State, the LGSETA Provincial Stakeholder Engagement Roadshow continues to strengthen collaboration across the local government skills development landscape.

Today in the Free State, key stakeholders gathered for the next chapter of the roadshow, engaging in meaningful dialogue on organisational progress, governance and compliance, service delivery, contract management, and financial performance.

The session was led by Mr P**e Molalenyane from HRM Mangaung Metropolitan Council, with strategic contributions from LGSETA Executive Management and provincial leadership, including Mr Pakiso Lebone, Acting HOD in the Free State Treasury.

The engagement reflected a shared commitment to accountability, collaboration, and building a capable, ethical, and developmental local government sector.

The LGSETA is commemorating Youth Day by supporting National Career Day activations across the country, providing career guidance and connecting young people to education, skills development and employment opportunities that can shape their future.

In Johannesburg, the LGSETA team is at Nasrec, where President Cyril Ramaphosa is leading the National Youth Day Commemoration alongside Ministers, Mayors, Councillors and MECs, as South Africa marks 50 years since the Soweto uprising.

The LGSETA is also at the Molestane Sports Complex, engaging directly with young people through exhibitions and career guidance, helping them unlock opportunities for growth, skills development and meaningful participation in building the future of local government.

Today is not only about remembering the past. It is about empowering the next generation to lead, grow and transform South Africa’s future.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial LGSETA Stakeholder Engagement Roadshow convenes key stakeholders from across the province to foster meaningful engagement, dialogue, and collaboration aimed at strengthening the local government skills development ecosystem.

The engagement is led by Mr Dante Mashile from the Office of the Premier: KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government, with facilitation and strategic inputs from LGSETA leadership and provincial representatives, including Ms Mabongi Xhakaza, Deputy Director: eThekwini Municipal Academy.

The discussions centred on organisational progress during the administration period, governance and compliance priorities, service delivery and contract management, as well as financial and budget allocation updates.

Stakeholders also reflected on the strategic direction for the 2026/27 financial year, guided by the LGSETA Strategic Plan and Annual Performance Plan.

The engagement concluded successfully, marked by constructive dialogue, active stakeholder participation, and a shared commitment to strengthening impact and accountability across the skills development value chain.

The LGSETA Stakeholder Engagement Roadshow now continues to the Free State Province on 18 June 2026, further advancing collaboration and stakeholder partnerships in support of a capable local government sector.

Today, the National Skills Authority (NSA) engaged with the LGSETA as part of its ongoing stakeholder consultation and oversight programme.

The insightful engagement provided an opportunity to reflect on progress under administration, discuss key challenges, and explore strategies to strengthen governance, accountability, and the impact of skills development in the local government sector.

Through constructive discussions and shared commitment, the engagement reaffirmed the importance of collaboration in advancing the goals of the NSDP 2030 and building a more responsive and effective skills development system.
