IN OTHER NEWS: Education to Residents on Disaster Preparedness

On the 3rd of September 2026, Winnie Madikizela Mandela Local Municipality (WMMLM) held a disaster awareness programme for residents in Ward 23, Mbizana.

The main aim of the programme was to educate residents about disasters and how they can protect themselves and their families during emergencies.

Several government departments and organisations were invited to share information with the community and they stressed bodly the cooperation needed between government and communities during disasters. These included the Alfred Nzo District Housing Department, Eskom, SASSA, Social Development and various NGOs.

Residents were encouraged to be prepared for possible disasters, understand the risks in their communities and know where and when to seek help during emergencies.

The municipality stressed that disaster preparedness requires cooperation between government departments, community members and other stakeholders to ensure a quick and effective response when disasters occurs.
