STATEMENT BY THE SASCO SOLOMON MAHLANGU BRANCH
22 May 2026
The SASCO Solomon Mahlangu Branch wishes to inform students that yesterday, the 21st of May 2026, the Branch Task Team(BTT) members intervened following concerns raised by students regarding accommodation-related challenges, following off-campus visitations held on the 2nd of May.
In defence of student interests and welfare, the BTT pleaded on behalf of affected students and accompanied them to Housing and Residence Affairs (HRA) to seek urgent assistance and intervention concerning the conditions and issues experienced within their accommodation.
We are pleased to report that the engagement yielded positive outcomes. Housing and Residence Affairs responded by dispatching an inspector to assess the situation and investigate the concerns raised by students.
We are hopeful that communication will be received today regarding the findings and the way forward, with the aim of ensuring that all issues affecting the accommodation are urgently rectified.
The SASCO Solomon Mahlangu Branch remains steadfast in its commitment to fighting for the rights, dignity, and wellbeing of students, and will continue to engage relevant stakeholders until satisfactory resolutions are achieved.
