MOKGOMOTSI MOKUNYANE- From Local Fields to International Opportunity.
His rugby journey began at the age of 7 at Fauna Primary School, where he first discovered his passion for the game. During his primary school years he did not make any provincial teams, which made the path in rugby uncertain at times.
Everything started to change when he attended HTS Louis Botha for high school. Surrounded by dedicated coaches and talented teammates, he continued to work hard and grow as a player.
In 2022 his persistence paid off when he earned his first provincial selection for the Free State U17 Rugby Team. The following year, in 2023, he achieved another milestone when he was selected for the prestigious Craven Week team.
The journey, however, was not always easy. By 2025, without offers from a union or university, he began to question whether he should continue playing the sport he loved. Determined not to give up, he joined a rugby academy in the Free State. Six months later, an opportunity opened up in Limpopo where he represented the Limpopo Blue Bulls U21 in the Currie Cup.
After the tournament, another exciting opportunity arrived — an offer to continue his rugby journey in Brazil where he currently plays for Cobras Brasil Rugby.
His story is a reminder that success does not come the same way for everyone. Some may receive opportunities easily, while others must dig deep, persevere and keep believing in their journey.
