Ward Committee Appreciation Ceremony Celebrates Community Service and Participation
Cape Agulhas Municipality hosted a Ward Committee Appreciation Ceremony on Thursday, 22 October 2026, at the Bredasdorp Golf Club to honour the dedication, commitment and invaluable contributions of ward committee members across the municipality.
The evening commenced with a warm welcome and opening address by Speaker of Council, Ald. Derick Burger, under whose office ward committees resort. Ald. Burger acknowledged the vital role ward committee members play in strengthening local democracy, promoting community participation and serving as a vital link between residents and the Municipality.
The Executive Mayor, Cllr Raymond Ross, delivered the opening prayer and reflected on the importance of servant leadership and collective efforts in building stronger and more resilient communities throughout the Cape Agulhas Municipal area.
In his keynote address, Ald. Burger expressed his appreciation for the time, energy and commitment invested by ward committee members in advancing the interests of their respective communities. He highlighted the significant role ward committees fulfil in community engagement, public participation processes and in ensuring that residents' voices are heard in municipal decision-making.
Municipal Manager, Mr Wessel Rabbets, delivered a vote of thanks, extending gratitude to all ward committee members, councillors and officials who continue to work together in pursuit of improved service delivery and community development.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of certificates of appreciation to ward committee members in recognition of their service and dedication during their term. The ceremony served as an opportunity to celebrate their contributions and acknowledge the positive impact they have made within their wards and communities.
The formal programme concluded with a fellowship dinner, allowing attendees the opportunity to reflect on their shared achievements and strengthen the partnerships that contribute to the ongoing development of Cape Agulhas Municipality.
