Madibeng Local Municipality “Madibeng, the Prosperous Platinum and Green Tourism City” Madibeng can also be reached by train and has an airport for light aircrafts.

Madibeng is classified as a category B Municipality, functioning through the Executive Mayoral System. The Municipality was recently demarcated into 36 wards and the Municipal Council comprises of 72 Councillors, (of which 10 are members of the Mayoral Committee), with a full-time Speaker, Chief Whip and Executive Mayor. Madibeng consists of several urban and rural areas, villages, farm portions, as well as a proper established and serviced industrial area. One of the advantages of Madibeng is its central location in the North West Province, with Pretoria,

Johannesburg, Rustenburg and Krugersdorp as bordering neighbours. As the neighbouring towns are easily accessible through road networks, residents are not confined to employment in the Madibeng jurisdiction alone, but can easily commute to workplaces in the cities and other towns. The National and soon to be International Lanseria Airport is situated a mere 40 kilometers from Brits. Madibeng is characterized by diverse economy sectors, i.e. agriculture, mining, manufacturing and tourism. Mining is predominant with Madibeng being the world‘s third largest chrome producer which also includes the richest Platinum Group Metals Reserve (situated on the Merensky Reef). Granite is another mining component. The turf soil is ideally for vegetation and Brits is known for the big variety and quality of fruit and vegetables supplied to, amongst others, the Tshwane Market. Due to the industrial area, consisting of a wide variety of industries, manufacturing is viewed as one of the dominant sectors. The Municipality has implemented a Performance Management System whereby performance is monitored through conducting performance assessments on a quarterly, mid-year and annual basis. Performance audits are conducted by both the Internal Auditors and Auditor General and the Performance reports are also published in the Annual Report

During October 2014 individual Ward Level Public Participation Meetings, to reprioritize each ward‘s needs and projects, were conducted. The outcome of the results was discussed at the IDP

WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION (SCHOEMANSVILLE, MELODIE)

Madibeng Local Municipality wishes to inform the residents of Schoemanville and Melodie that a pipe burst has occurred on the Schoemanville Water Treatment Works (WTW) rising main.

Urgent repairs are required to restore the pipeline. As a result, the water supply to the affected areas been temporarily shut off until the repairs have been completed.

The Municipality apologizes for the inconvenience caused and appreciates residents' patience and understanding during this period.

WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION (HEBRON)

Madibeng Local Municipality hereby informs residents of Hebron of a temporary interruption to the water supply.
The interruption is necessary to allow the maintenance team to install two 3.5-metre lengths of 200 mm flanged pipe for a gate valve in the Midas Section.
The Municipality sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience caused and appreciates residents' patience, understanding and cooperation as it continues to improve the water supply infrastructure.

EMERGENCY WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION (SCHOEMANSVILLE)

Madibeng Local Municipality hereby informs residents of Schoemansville about an emergency water supply interruption due to essential repair work on a burst bulk pipe.

The repair work involves a 250 mm water pipeline supplying the Schoemansville area.

Residents are advised to switch off all water-using appliances and taps to prevent potential damage or flooding when the water supply is restored.

The Municipality sincerely regrets any inconvenience this interruption may cause and thanks residents for their patience, understanding and cooperation as the necessary repairs are undertaken.

WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION (LETLHABILE/CENTREVILLE)

Madibeng Local Municipality wishes to inform the residents of Letlhabile that the pumps serving the area, located at the Brits Water Treatment Plant, are experiencing technical faults that are causing them to trip and disrupting the water supply.

The pumps form part of the ongoing upgrade works at the Brits Water Treatment Plant.

The matter has been escalated to Magalies Water, the implementing agent responsible for the upgrade works, and the relevant contractors for urgent attention and resolution.

The Municipality will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates once the pump faults have been resolved.

The Municipality apologises for the inconvenience caused and appreciates the residents’ patience and understanding during this period.

EMERGENCY WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION (HARTBEESPOORT-SCHOEMANSVILLE)

Madibeng Local Municipality hereby informs all residents of Schoemansville and surrounding areas of an emergency interruption of the water supply scheduled for Tuesday, 13 October 2026, from 08:00 to 24:00 (midnight), to allow for essential maintenance work on the main water supply line.

The maintenance work will involve the installation of a 300 mm valve and a 200 mm shut-off valve at the Schoemansville Reservoir. This intervention is necessary to improve the reliability and efficiency of the water distribution network and to ensure a more reliable water supply to the affected areas.

Residents are urged to make the necessary arrangements for the duration of the interruption. All water-using appliances should be switched off to prevent possible damage, water wastage or flooding when the water supply is restored. Residents are also advised that water supply may be restored gradually following the completion of the maintenance work.

ELANDSRAND & DAMONSVILLE POWER OUTAGE UPDATE

Madibeng Local Municipality has successfully sourced the replacement material required to undertake repairs at the Pendoring Substation, following damage to an electrical cable caused by an attempted theft. The incident has resulted in a power outage affecting the areas of Elandsrand and Damonsville.

The appointed contractor is currently on site and repair work is underway. The contractor will continue working around the clock to restore the electricity supply as soon as possible.

Residents and affected consumers are urged to treat all electrical installations as live throughout the duration of the outage, as the power supply may be restored without prior notification.

POWER OUTAGE (ELANDSRAND & DAMONSVILLE)

The ongoing power outage affecting Elandsrand and Damonsville has been confirmed as an attempted cable theft at the Pendoring Substation, which resulted in significant damage to a specialized electrical cable.

Unfortunately, the required replacement cable is currently not available in stock, and no estimated time of restoration can be confirmed at this stage.

The Municipality is actively working to source the necessary replacement material and restore the electricity supply as soon as possible.

Further updates will be communicated as soon as additional information becomes available.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF BRITS AND HARTBEESPOORT LICENSING CENTRES (ONLY TESTING OF APPLICANTS FOR LEARNERS AND DRIVERS LICENSES WILL BE CONDUCTED)

Please take note that both the Brits and Hartbeespoort Licensing Offices will be closed on Friday, 2 October 2026 due to a planned Employee Wellness Day taking place within the Municipality on the same day.

Please note that only the testing of applicants for Learners’ and Drivers’ Licences, as per confirmed appointments, will be conducted.
