NOTICE TO THE HARTEBEESPOORT COMMUNITY REGARDING THE REPLACEMENT OF ASBESTOS WATER PIPELINES
Madibeng Local Municipality hereby notifies all residents, businesses, institutions and stakeholders in the Hartbeespoort area that a project is currently underway to replace sections of the existing asbestos water pipeline distribution network with UPVC pipelines.
The Municipality has appointed five (5) contractors, who are currently establishing their sites and commencing work in the respective areas.
PROJECT AREAS
The Phase 1 project includes the replacement of approximately the following pipeline lengths:
Melodie (1,029m)
Meerhof (865m)
Ifafi (4, 294)
Schoemansville (6,000m)
Kosmos (1, 311m)
The project will involve the replacement of the existing asbestos pipelines with various sizes of UPVC pipes, including 250 mm, 110 mm and 90 mm pipelines, depending on the requirements of each area.
PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
The Municipality wishes to inform the community that this is Phase 1 of the Hartbeespoort Asbestos Pipeline Replacement Project. The current phase will not cover the entire existing asbestos pipeline distribution network.
The outstanding sections of the network that are not included in the current project will be addressed during Phase 2, subject to the necessary planning and implementation processes.
POSSIBLE WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTIONS
During the construction and connection of the new UPVC pipelines, there may be temporary water supply interruptions, reduced water pressure or other operational disruptions in certain areas.
Madibeng Local Municipality will ensure that the affected communities are notified in advance of any planned water interruptions.
Where necessary, the Municipality will communicate:
• The affected areas;
• The dates and expected duration of the water interruption;
• Alternative water supply arrangements, where applicable; and
• Any water tanker arrangements that may be implemented.
Residents are therefore encouraged to follow the Municipality's official communication platforms and community notices for updates regarding the project and any planned water supply interruptions.
COMMUNITY COOPERATION
Residents and motorists are requested to cooperate with the contractors and project teams working within their respective areas. Community members are also encouraged to exercise caution around construction sites, trenches, machinery and other project activities.
Madibeng Local Municipality apologizes for any inconvenience that may arise during the implementation of this important infrastructure project. The replacement of the ageing asbestos pipeline distribution network forms part of the Municipality's efforts to improve the reliability, safety and sustainability of water supply infrastructure in the Hartbeespoort area.
