EFFYC STATEMENT ON THE INTRODUCTION OF APPLICATION FEE

Revolutionary Greetings,

We hope that this statement finds you in good spirits as we are in the struggle of fighting to attain the free, decolonized, and well resourced education that is intertwined with the economic freedom in our lifetime

The EFFYC has noted with deep concern and frustration the unjust decision that has been taken by the registrar without any consultations with the relevant offices for the implementation of the application fee. This decision does not just exclude prospective students but closes doors for students born from the rural marginalised outscurts of this country, especially in the Eastern Cape.

The EFFYC totally rejects this decision by the registrar as this university is one of the universities that attracts the poor and working classes. Therefore, we can not let our brothers and sisters be subjected to such We are in a struggle to attain economic freedom that is intertwined with free-quality, well resourced education, with the introduction of application fee in Walter Sisulu. This takes us ten steps back in this struggle. Subsediary to that, this application fee will not help the financial standing of the university but instead will lessen the number of applications we receive each year. We need to remain the university of choice.

In this regard, the EFFYC in Walter Sisulu demands that the university scrap this application fee money scheme off, while on that, the university must start proper consultation with all stakeholders.

Regards
EFFYC Walter Sisulu

Revolutionary greetings to the students of Walter Sisulu University, fighters of justice and defenders of student dignity.

After a long and difficult struggle for service delivery and dignified student accommodation, the CSRC together with the EFFYC Leadership conducted a visit to the Student Village to assess and confirm the progress regarding the long-standing issues that were previously raised before management.

This follows the consistent engagements, letters and interventions made by CSRC under the office of Secretary demanding urgent action on the poor living conditions that threatened the safety and dignity of students. As revolutionary student leaders, we believe that students deserve accommodation that is safe, clean and conducive for academic excellence.

During the oversight visit, progress was observed on the renovations and reconstruction process within the Student Village. It was also confirmed that work on the kitchen is currently underway as part of the broader restoration of the residence facilities. While there is still work to be done, these developments demonstrate that student struggles and militant engagement continue to produce results.

We remain committed to ensuring that no student is subjected to inhumane conditions and we will continue monitoring the process until the work is completed to acceptable standards.

The struggle for quality education, proper accommodation and service delivery continues we will never get tired even in Hostel washing machines will arrive there is no more long wait.

Revolutionary Regards

The EFFYC IBIKA Branch calls upon all fighters to come out in large numbers and take part in our Door-to-Door and Voter Registration Campaign week taking place from the 25 to the 29 of May 2026.

This campaign is aimed at assisting students and community members with the IEC registration system so that they can register to vote ahead of the Local Government Elections scheduled for the 4th of November 2026. We will also assist those who need to change their voting stations so that they are registered where they will be during the upcoming elections.

We urge everyone to take this campaign seriously. Registering to vote is not just about participating in elections, but it is about fighting for the future of our people. It is through our votes that we continue the struggle against unemployment, poverty, inequality, and the many challenges facing South Africa today.

Let us mobilise our communities, students, and all unregistered voters to ensure that every eligible person is registered and ready to vote.

NB: Students who are not yet registered to vote are requested to bring their IDs and come to the EFFYC Office on any day during the campaign so that they can be assisted with registration on the IEC system.
