Die Poort Private Nature Reserve

We are so looking forward to welcoming guests back to Die Poort. Parts of the Matjiesvlei Valley were badly affected after the recent floods. Unfortunately some of the roads close to the river was badly damaged. We are grateful that work is in process and will let you know as soon as access to our farm has been restored!

An update from Die Poort: 4 June 2026 The Gamka River is in full flood again. This will be the fourth time within the last few weeks - unheard of! Our thoughts and prayers are with all our friends in the Matjiesvlei valley.

The White-fronted Bee eater. 🧡We are very excited to add this beauty to our bird list! Even thought they do not originate from here, it seems like they have established themselves in the area. Our first sighting was, while cooling down in the river.

Some dramatic footage from a few days ago. After the heatwave, we experienced some heavenly showers followed by magnificent lightning storms. This started a small fire, high up in the mountains above our farm. Our heartfelt gratitude to all involved for their swift and coordinated action.
