There is something magical about the vegetation that we find throughout the entire Kataza Freedom Trail. It is called Fynbos and is known as the smallest, yet richest floral kingdom on the planet.
Fynbos is the prevalent type of plant cover we will walk through. It is an incredible myriad of flowers and structures, all designed to attract a huge number of insects that help to pollinate the surrounding plants.

Fynbos can be distinguished in 4 different elements...being proteas, ericas, restios & bulb and are gathered together in plant communities, depending on soil type, position, water resources, etc.
Fire is critical to the survival of fynbos and baboons are a vital part of the dispersal of seeds. In fact, baboons feed on many types of fynbos and we will share these with you in the coming days.....

To be perfectly honest i did not realize how far you can walk in the wilderness within the TMNP without seeing anything except Nature. You can hear the sugarbirds flapping their wings. It's really quite. You can see his footprints clearly in the sand. He walks on the path, like us
