Happy Valley HOME

Happy Valley HOME A South Peninsula based homeless shelter, offering a stepping stone to life back in society.

We are a NPO registered Homeless Shelter, based in Simon's Town, Cape Town and founded in 1996. Happy Valley Home started in 1991 originally as a soup kitchen run from the Simon's Town Catholic Church. In 1996, it became clear that something more was needed to assist Simon's Town's poor, Mr. Duraan, previous Magistrate of Simon's Town , negotiated with the Navy to use the old arsenal buildings an

d Happy Valley Home was formerly established.]

Happy Valley Home caters for 65 residents on a 6 month basis. With 25 women & 40 men all over the age of 18, who reside in separated dorms. Each Resident is given 3 meals a day & also gets access to the clothing "store" room if they wish to get warmer clothing from donations given. Happy Valley strives to get the homeless off the streets & into a warm, safe environment. We also provide the opportunity for each resident to get their legal documents in order, like ID documents to obtain employment. Our staff also facilitate in connecting the residents with their families and back into society once again. Because Happy Valley is only allowed to house a maximum of 75 residents at one time, the winter Readiness Programme allows for an extra 10 homeless people to stay as non permanent residents from June to the end of August,

Unfortunately We often to refer homeless intakes to other shelters (with transport to said shelter)

For a small fee of R5, any homeless person is able to choose a FULL outfit for themselves from head to toe. We often feed those who are not residents as well, if we get enough food donations for that month. If we recieve any extra donations of food we will share and donate the excess to a variety of organisations locally who also depend of community donations. With increasing homelessness and limited State funds, Happy Valley relies on the generosity of others and fundraising to meet the demands of the ongoing running costs and homelessness issues,

We are always trying to find ways of improving our already good infrastructure, which is a struggle to maintain. Currently Happy Valley is in the process repair and renovations to some of the infrastructure and facilities. This will be done in phases as to not hinder the daily functioning of the shelter, & to pay attention to each phase specifically for its maximum potential & outcome.

Happy Valley operates as a small, independent temporary shelter. In alignment with current guidelines and funding structures associated with the Department of Social Development (DSD), and after careful consideration of operational and safety requirements, we have made the difficult decision to transition to accommodating male clients only.

We are currently working closely with the women still in our care to assist them in securing appropriate alternative accommodation and support services. This includes referrals to female-specific shelters, assistance with independent accommodation opportunities, and, where possible, reintegration with family support structures.

Happy Valley remains committed to providing temporary shelter and support as a stepping stone toward recovery, stability, and reintegration away from homelessness. With homelessness continuing to rise and state funding remaining limited, we continue to rely heavily on public generosity, donations, and fundraising initiatives to help sustain our operations and meet the growing needs within the community.

We are once again blown away by the generosity of Chad & The Ichthys Project NPC , who donated a staggering 67kg of fresh fish to Happy Valley Home last week!
Providing 3 nutritious meals a day for our residents is a big task, and donations like this make a world of difference. High-quality protein is essential for the health and well-being of our clients, and we are so grateful for the support.
Thank you for helping us keep our kitchen stocked and our hearts (and stomachs) full! πŸ’™

πŸ‘—πŸ‘Ÿ SHARING IS CARING! πŸ’™
We are so proud to share that Happy Valley Home recently donated clothing to not one, but TWO wonderful organisations in our community!
πŸ“¦ 5 boxes of brand new mixed clothing were distributed by Cllr Patricia Franke at Ocean View Pre-Primary School
πŸ“¦ Over 4 boxes of mixed clothing and shoes were handed over to Open Doors Ocean View by our thrift store manager, Nadima.
When our thrift store receives extra donations, we believe in passing the love forward and supporting other organisations in need. Every item finds a home, and every act of giving creates a ripple of kindness in our community. πŸŒŠπŸ’›

πŸ₯³πŸ₯³ A massive thank you to Kathy and the wonderful Sunday School children from Kommetjie Christian Church! 🌟
We were so excited to receive a beautifully decorated box filled with essential toiletries and cleaning supplies. It is so inspiring to see young members of our community supporting us at Happy Valley.
These donations will go a long way in our daily operations, and we are incredibly grateful for the effort the kids put into both collecting the items and making the delivery so special.

When the unexpected happens and when lives spill over, when shelter and security break down, our instinct might be to focus on the damage.
At Happy Valley Home, we’ve learned that the real story isn’t the crisis. It’s the response.

It’s the people, our team, our partners, our community, who come together to offer shelter, care, and hope.
It’s the resilience we see in every resident who walks through our doors, choosing to take the first step toward a better future.
It’s the volunteers and supporters who show up, bringing not just clothes and blankets, but also dignity, compassion, and possibility.

In a world where it’s easy to focus on what’s broken, we choose to focus on what’s possible.
Where others might see a spill, we see a mop. And a chance to clean up, to restore, and to rebuild lives.

At Happy Valley Home, we don’t just offer a roof. We offer hope, belonging, and a path forward.
Because homelessness is not just about being without a home, it’s about the journey toward us healing and stability, a journey we walk together.

You can be part of this journey.

Your support, whether a donation, a share, or a helping hand, makes it possible for us to keep mopping up the spills and restoring lives.
Together, we can turn setbacks into solutions.
