Galakaxa, Cape Town, byee Georgie.

I can’t wait to be a couch potato this week as a fan of FIFA Soccer World Cup (11th June opening, where do we buy soccer ⚽️ T-shirts?). We also have comrades marathon 🏃‍♂️ on the 14th June, “Ska Fela Moya" Up Run.

So, we the sports groupies club, we start by reading a lot about game intelligence, top players , comparing past games etc. For marathon, we save all those we want to track on that Sunday. So, on marathon day , you alternate phone & TV.

By the time the game starts , we are the most clever commentators than sports people themselves. I would even know what time the champs eat for breakfast , sleep patterns etc .

After the games , we forget everything, till another adrenaline of sport craze kicks in.

Let me stock on wood 🪵, charcoal, popcorns… but wait … who will sponsor 🥩 & 🍷 🍺🤔

Residents are advised that multiple service disruptions are currently being experienced across sectors due to adverse weather and related infrastructure impacts.

This week , the Western Cape Provincial Parliament (WCPP), is hosting international forum of Commonwealth Parliamentarians with Disabilities (CPwD).

Yesterday I spoke at panel session , Intersectionality and Inclusion: Women with Disabilities in Political Leadership.

Thanks to my panel partner , Dr Marlene Le Roux, Artscape boss lady, for sharing lived experience .

My focus was on health inequities faced by people with disabilities & country benefits if we invest on universal access & inclusion in the mainstream. I shared my experience engaging with QuadPara association specifically on wheelchair users being excluded more than the rest (use of GO GEORGE municipality buses as example ).

I shared the work WC Parly has done & what needs to be done in implementing the recommendations from 2023 round table discussions of MPPs, cabinet & disability sector

They raised eg:
- revive disability desk in government
- Self representation (nothing about them, without them)
- Reliable mobility
- Broaden accessibility
- Employment to at least to meet minimum requirements of representation

To be continued

Thank you Commonwealth Parliamentarians Association for choosing WC to host. Looking forward to host you , again , in July : Gender sensitization parliament (GSP) workshop by Commonwealth Women parliamentarians in Africa

Last night , my engagement as one of facilitators in the Boston society confirmation class, was on SOCIAL HOLINESS: Doing life together

The scripture was on “GREATEST COMMANDMENT “: Matthew 22: 37-40

In view that we are a church with eyes, ears, nose, heart, I touched on current immigration protests of South Africans vs black African immigrants.

In 2008, during worst xenophobic attacks in SA, all displaced black foreign national families around Bellville area were housed & at local churches (Boston Methodist, Boston Presbyterian, Boston Baptist churches specifically). I was the church leader then , facilitating with clergy of these churches leading the process towards integration of foreign nationals with communities , whilst law enforcement & governments were doing their part on documentation , arrests etc where applicable .
Our role as church was to “Love our neighbour as ourselves”. Our role as Methodists were to :
- Do no harm
- Do good
- Stay in love with God
We serve God in the church & the world. God created us to be Social Beings.
Would I do it again ? Living out the “greatest commandment” is who I am as Christian.

But we must do more by holding government accountable on porous land borders. Air-ports, sea-ports borders are as secured , but land-borders promote illegal migration, so is the corruption by government officials who sell our country to illegal immigrants by providing illegal docs.

It is us, the occupants of Union Buildings & parliaments who must account to citizens of this country on this issue. Citizens are raising genuine issues, we , politicians must answer.

Love thy neighbour , fight us the authorities

🚌 🚎 CUTTING OF NATIONAL FUNDING THREATENS MYCITY & GO-GEORGE MUNICIPALITY BUSES EXPANSION

Cutting what works: DA WC warns national transport cuts undermine mobility success

by Prof. Nomafrench Mbombo, MPP - DA Western Cape Spokesperson on Mobility

Date: 26 May 2026

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape is concerned by national government’s reduction and restructuring of public transport funding, which threatens the sustainability and expansion of municipal bus services such as MyCiTi in Cape Town and GO GEORGE in George.

The Public Transport Network Grant (PTNG) is expected to decrease by R1.83 billion nationally, an astounding 24.3%, from 2025/26 to 2026/27. Over the medium term, the grant will decrease by more than 40%. This is happening despite successful municipal transport systems in the Western Cape demonstrating strong performance, growing commuter demand, and effective implementation.

National Treasury has justified the reduction on the basis of underspending and delays in implementation elsewhere in the country. However, capable provinces and municipalities that are delivering results should not be punished because other municipalities lack political will, effective governance, and leadership.

Bus services in the Western Cape account for more than 40% of all Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) passenger trips nationally, underscoring the province’s leading role in delivering efficient and reliable public transport.

MyCiTi alone is projected to deliver approximately 66 000 weekday passenger trips during the 2026/27 financial year. While the planned expansion across the Cape Flats is expected to benefit more than 1.4 million residents, significantly improving access to jobs, education, and economic opportunities. Similarly, GO GEORGE facilitates more than 28 500 passenger trips per weekday in 2026/27 and remains a critical mobility lifeline for residents in George, particularly in connecting outlying communities to essential services and economic nodes.

Prof. Nomafrench Mbombo, MPP, DA Western Cape Spokesperson on Mobility said: “National government cannot continue to punish transport systems that are working. The Western Cape and DA-run municipalities have consistently demonstrated innovation, delivery, and accountability in public transport.”

Mbombo further added, “MyCiTi and GO GEORGE are essential mobility lifelines for residents who rely on safe, affordable, and reliable transport to access jobs, education, and healthcare. Successful municipalities should be rewarded, not penalised for the failures of others.”
