Consulate General of India, Cape Town, in collaboration with Stellenbosch University, held the “Exploring India-South Africa Start-up Ecosystem” event at Stellenbosch.

The event brought together entrepreneurs, start-ups, innovators, professionals, students and stakeholders from India and South Africa to engage on start-up collaboration, innovation and opportunities between the two countries.

The event was opened by High Commissioner Shri Prabhat Kumar, Stellenbosch University Rector Prof. Deresh Ramjugernath and Consul General Ms. Ruby Jaspreet.

The programme featured Mr Sahil Affriya, Founder & CEO of Shiprazor; Mr Aman Singh, Founder of The Venture Studio, creators of Webbie Shop; and Prof Willem Fourie, Director: Policy Innovation Lab, in conversation with Mr Retief Louw, Founder of Cape Codes. They all shared their experiences and encouraged the young participants to find avenues for entrepreneurial ambitions.

The engagement provided a meaningful platform to strengthen linkages between the Indian and South African start-up ecosystems and explore future avenues of collaboration.

As South Africa marks the National Women’s Day this month, Consul General Ms. Ruby Jaspreet visited Cooktastic Hub in Cape Town and met with Ms. Arifa Parkar, Chairperson and Director of Cooktastic along with Chef Caley Gray, Head of Culinary Training at Cooktastic.

Cooktastic is a non-profit social enterprise providing skills in culinary training, work-readiness development and job placement support to young people from diverse backgrounds.

Consul General met the team of trainees and appreciated the contribution being made by this women-led team at Cooktastic to train a group that comprised largely of young women aspiring to be chefs.

Ms. Arifa Parker and Chef Caley Gray shared insights into the practical training and mentorship aiming at promoting entrepreneurial growth.

The interaction provided a valuable opportunity to learn about Cooktastic's work in youth empowerment, skills development, entrepreneurship and employment creation especially for women in the Western Cape.

Marking the upcoming occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Sisters from Brahmakumaris Cape Town including Sister Raksha and Sister Nita visited CGI Cape Town. They tied Rakhis to Consul General Ms. Ruby Jaspreet and the Consulate's team as a gesture of goodwill highlighting the values of peace and brotherhood.

The Consulate team offered their appreciation for the contribution of the Brahmakumaris team in fostering Indian values of unity and peace.

They also participated in the Exhibition on history of our National Song being organised at CGI Cape Town to mark 150 years of its Anniversary.

Consul General Ms Ruby Jaspreet held an engagement with President of Cape Town Malayali Association, Mr Sabu George. Consulate team members and other representatives of the Association also participated in the meeting.

Discussion included the briefing by Consul General about the future plans for the community and upcoming cultural events. Malayali association also briefed the CGI team about the association's work in the region to promote Indian culture and traditions.

Association members got to know about the history of our National Song, Vande Mataram, by participating in the exhibition organised at CGI, Cape Town marking the 150th Anniversary of the song 🇮🇳

As CGI Cape Town celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India 🇮🇳, children of the Indian Community came together with great enthusiasm to sing the National Song creating a proud and inspiring moment for everyone present.

The kids included Smriti Bhushan, Shaswat Bhushan, Vinuta Vama, Manasvi Chourasia, Viraj Singh, Namish Chourasia and Reyaansh Prajapati.

Also featured were a lovely dance performance by the four-year old Joycy Angelina Tadigiri and a heartfelt poem recital by Suryansh Veera showcasing their patriotism for the country.

Their wounderful participation added warmth and joy to the celebrations.

India’s 80th Independence Day 🇮🇳 was celebrated with great fervour by Consulate General of India, Cape Town at India House along with the local Indian community.

The celebrations commenced with a stirring rendition of Vande Mataram by a group of children, followed by Consul General Ms. Ruby Jaspreet hoisting the National Flag and reading the Hon’ble President’s Address to the Nation. Children gave special performances with singing, dancing and poetry recital.

The programme beautifully reflected the pride, unity and spirit of the Indian community in Cape Town, with enthusiastic participation from members of the diaspora.
