The South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA) is a not-for-profit association representing 60 member member companies largely made up of developers, manufacturers and service providers operating within the Photovoltaic (PV) industry. The association is devoted to promoting the growth of South Africa’s solar PV electricity market, and aims to represent the PV industry before politica

l institutions at provincial and national level, as well as inform decision makers as to the current state of the industry, both in South Africa and abroad. Since its inception, SAPVIA has lobbied the DoE, Treasury, NERSA, DPE, DTi, Eskom, amongst others, for inclusion of PV in the IRP; submitted a written response and delivered a presentation at the IRP hearings in 2010; played a pivotal role in the inclusion of 8400 MW of PV in the new IRP; collated and submitted written comments to the NERSA REFIT consultation process on the 22nd of April this year, and presented at the NERSA public hearings on the 6th of May.
