Its slopes are also a popular launching point for paragliders. Lion's Head is a mountain located in Cape Town, South Africa, between Table Mountain and Signal Hill. Lion's Head peaks at 669 meters (2,195 ft) above sea level. The peak forms part of a dramatic backdrop to the city of Cape Town and is part of the Table Mountain National Park. (Wikipedia)
For those that have actually climbed Lion's H
ead, know that it is not just a Mountain....
Lion's Head is a true South African experience where locals, tourists, hikers, climbers, paragliders, family and friends alike come together to enjoy the stunning views of the beautiful city of Cape Town, sky, beach, Table Moutain and the 12 Apostles. Anyone can get to the top of Table Mountain (via Cable Car)... but not everyone can reach the summit of Lion's head. The trip can take anywhere from 30 mins to +-3 hours depending on your fitness level. (although generally 1 and a half hours for 1st timers)
I've heard some fitness freaks reaching the top in 20 crazy mins??? Make sure to bring along some water, maybe a light snack if you intend on staying a while and some sun block on a clear day if you burn easily. A light jacket will come in handy as Cape Town weather is unpredictable. If you decide to enjoy the sunset on Lion's Head... bring a torch or preferably a headlight for the way down as I'm sure you don't want to take the long drop route :-P
Also take a cell phone in case s^%$ happens! (SOS number below)
More information will be provided as the group progresses, feel free to invite your friends, post pics and comments pertaining to Lion's Head (plz keep it clean as per Facebooks Terms) but most of all enjoy one of creation's most magnificent spectacle. "In a sense, everything that is, exists to climb. All evolution is climbing towards a higher form. Climbing for life as it reaches towards the consciousness, towards the spirit. We have always honored the high places because we sense them to be the homes of gods. In the mountains there is the promise of... something unexplainable. A higher place of awareness, a spirit that soars. So we climb... and in climbing there is more than a metaphor; there is a means of discovery."
