Statement on Bullying

The African Christian Democratic Party in the Western Cape expresses deep concern regarding the growing scourge of bullying affecting learners in schools across the Western Cape.

Every child deserves to learn in an environment that is safe, caring, and conducive to personal growth. Yet many learners are subjected daily to intimidation, physical abuse, verbal harassment, cyberbullying, and emotional trauma.

Bullying not only undermines a learner’s confidence and academic performance but can also leave lasting psychological scars that impact families and entire communities. Incidents where learners suffer in silence or feel isolated should be a matter of serious concern for all sectors of society.

Parents are encouraged to remain actively involved in the lives of their school-going children. Any changes in behaviour, mood, or daily routines should be noticed and addressed through consistent, open interaction.

Christians calls on schools, parents, educators, faith-based organisations, and communities to work together to strengthen anti-bullying measures and to restore discipline, compassion, and respect within educational environments.

The ACDP further appeals to parents and gaurdians to report bullying to the principal of the respective school. If for any reason the bullying continues that this matter be reported to the WCED District Office.

Statement: Violence in the Home

Families are under immense pressure including unemployment, poverty, rising living costs, and ongoing financial hardship.

For many parents, the stress of being unable to provide food, shelter, and basic necessities can become overwhelming.

Regrettably, these pressures can at times lead to conflict, aggression, and even physical violence within the home. Such circumstances place strain on relationships between spouses, as well as between parents and their children.

Christians urges parents and caregivers who are facing these challenges to seek help before situations escalate. Faith-based organisations, community groups, social workers, and government support services are available to offer counselling, guidance, and practical assistance.

Seeking support is not a sign of weakness—it is a sign of care, responsibility, and a deep commitment to the well-being of one’s family. It reflects the desire of loving parents to provide a safe and nurturing environment for their children.

During Child Protection Week, let us stand together to strengthen families, support parents, and ensure that every child is protected, valued, and given the opportunity to thrive.

🥳BREAKING NEWS🥳

The ACDP in the City of Cape Town notes and welcomes the ruling of the High Court which ruled that the fixed tariffs set by the City of Cape Town in the 25/26 financial year is unlawful and invalid in the case brought by the South African Property Owners (SAPOA) and AfriForum.

The ACDP did not support the budget due to the cost to the ratepayers of our beautiful city, with rising food and fuel costs; the expectation to increase rates through these fixed tariff charges has a significant impact on middle income homes primarily.

We reiterate that infrastructure development, service delivery and the safety of our residents need to be prioritized however we need to look at ways to mitigate the impact on residents that fund the development of our City, while simultaneously building Cape Town to be the number one municipality in the country.

We look forward to seeing the progress in implementing further measures that will bring relief to households and communities across the metro making the city more affordable to live in.
