Statement on Community Safety in the Blaauwberg Region

The residents of Greater Blaauwberg are deeply concerned by the noticeable increase in serious
criminal activity affecting our communities.

Over recent months, incidents including burglaries, home invasions, violent assaults, gender-based violence, and fatal shootings have heightened fear and uncertainty among residents.

Every person has the constitutional right to live, work, and raise a family in a safe and secure environment.

The recent escalation in violent crime threatens not only public safety but also the sense of community that has long defined Table View, Parklands, Du Noon, Melkbosstrand, Milnerton, Atlantis, and the broader Blaauwberg region.

As citizens of a diverse and democratic South Africa, we are entitled to hold differing political views, beliefs, and affiliations. Healthy debate and respectful disagreement are essential to our democracy.

Violence, intimidation, and criminal behaviour, however, have no place in our communities and must be condemned without reservation.

I therefore call upon the South African Police Service to intensify efforts to investigate violent crimes, strengthen visible policing, and ensure that those responsible for criminal acts are brought to justice.

I also call on the City of Cape Town's Law Enforcement agencies to continue working proactively with communities to address public disorder, substance-related offences, and other factors that contribute to unsafe neighbourhoods.

Furthermore, I urge all stakeholders involved in community safety—including Community Policing Forums, neighbourhood watches, law enforcement agencies, faith-based organisations, and residents—
to work together in building safer communities through cooperation, vigilance, and preventative action.

As Branch Chair of Ward 107 for the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), I remain committed to advocating for practical solutions that improve safety, strengthen community partnerships, and support effective law enforcement.

Too many crimes occur that could have been prevented through better coordination, increased visibility of policing, and stronger community engagement.

To the residents of Ward 107 and the Blaauwberg region: your safety remains one of my highest priorities.

If elected as your Ward Councillor on 4 November 2026, I will work tirelessly to champion safer streets, stronger community partnerships, and greater accountability in addressing crime.

Together, we can build communities where families feel secure, businesses can thrive, and every resident can enjoy
the quality of life we deserve.

Statement on the Crisis of Violence in Ward 104, Dunoon

The ongoing shootings and violent crime in Ward 104, Dunoon, have reached a level that demands
urgent action. Families are living in fear, children are growing up surrounded by violence, and hardworking residents are being denied the basic right to safety and security.

While we mourn the lives lost and stand with the victims and their families, our response cannot end
with sympathy alone.

The people of Dunoon deserve solutions, leadership, and action.
I am calling for an immediate Community Safety Intervention Plan that brings together the South
African Police Service, Metro Police, Law Enforcement, Community Policing Forums, neighbourhood
watches, faith-based organisations, and community leaders to address this crisis through coordinated action.

This plan must include:

• Increased visible policing and targeted operations in identified crime hotspots.
• Improved cooperation between law enforcement agencies and community safety structures to ensure
faster response times and better intelligence gathering.
• Stronger support for community policing initiatives and neighbourhood watch programmes that
empower residents to become partners in creating safer streets.
• Intervention programmes for at-risk youth through sport, skills development, mentorship, and
employment opportunities to break the cycle of gang recruitment and criminal activity.
• Greater accountability from all spheres of government to ensure that safety resources are allocated where they are needed most.

Crime cannot be defeated by law enforcement alone. Sustainable safety requires partnership between
government, communities, churches, businesses, and residents working together toward a common
goal.

Dunoon is a community filled with resilient, hardworking people who deserve the opportunity to live,
work, and raise their families in peace. We cannot accept violence as normal, nor can we allow fear to
define our future.

The time for statements alone has passed. The time for decisive action is now.

Together, we can restore hope, reclaim our streets, and build a safer Dunoon for every resident.
