Cape Town Snake Park

Cape Town Snake Park Education through entertainment We cater for all age groups in virtually any environment around the Western Cape.

We provide both entertainment and educational awareness concerning the conservation of reptiles in an action packed, humorous and jaw dropping experience, where you have the opportunity to directly interact with some of the biggest snakes such as the Burmese Pythons to some of the friendliest reptiles; creating an opportunity for some of the spectators to have a show and feel experience with the a

nimals. We aim to teach all ages about how to react to situations they may come into with some of South Africa’s most venomous and dangerous snakes around as well as leaving a message of conservation and a life time experience. o School Groups

Help!! There's a snake in my garden!
Snake Season is upon us in Cape Town, and we can expect to see more snake activity over the next few months. There are 3 things that anyone in Cape Town can and should do as the weather warms:
1: Educate your children about snakes (this is where we can help)
2: Download the ASI Snakes app for free: africansnakebiteinstitute.com/app to get the number of your local snake catcher
3: Don't try catch or kill kill snakes- this is the easiest way to get yourself bitten- rather give an expert a call.

please feel free to hit our Whatsapp button for any info, ID's or to book an educational show for your kids, their school, your family or friends.

Playing with our ASI Scorpion torch.
Scorpions glow like Neon under UV light. Watch how well the scorpion blends into the surroundings when we turned on the normal torch. This Scorpion is a bark scorpion (Uroplectes variegatus) which is harmless.

Puff Adder (bitis arietans)
These highly venomous adders are very common in the western cape. They are ambush hunters, and will lay in the same position for days at a time, waiting for prey to come close.
When approached by a person, the Puff Adder generally lays as still as possible, in hope that it doesn't get seen. If threatened it will puff and hiss , and can strike incredibly fast.
The cytotoxic venom of a Puff Adder causes servere pain , swelling and necrosis and if left untreated, can be fatal. These snakes are Viviperous, meaning they give birth to live young.

Beaked blind snake (Rhinotyphlops lalandei) -harmless
If one looks closely at the head (to the right), one can see the slightly beak- shaped snout which is used to dig into soil.
These are extremely common in Cape town, but hardly ever seen, as they spend all their time underground.
