One of the most important skills for any leader is to listen and learn.

That’s what I’m doing for the next while as I settle into my role as Western Cape Minister of Education, engaging with various officials and stakeholders.

A great way to start the week, in conversation with Fazlin Fransman Taliep and Goolam Fakier. 😁

We discussed my hope for this new role as Western Cape Minister of Education, and my intentions to build on the solid foundation laid by my predecessor, working with officials and staff of the Western Cape Education Department, and the broader education community.

I leave the Western Cape Department of Social Development with a grateful heart, having been able to serve alongside dedicated and passionate public servants and partner organisations.

The Department is in the very capable hands of Provincial Minister Wendy Kaizer Philander. Sterkte Minister, mag die nuwe paadjie ʼn geseënde een wees. 🙏

Over the coming weeks I look forward to meeting with the national Minister of Education, Western Cape Education Department officials and staff, and those in the broader education sector, to discuss how we can work together towards the WCED’s vision of quality education for every learner in the Western Cape.

I am honoured to have been entrusted by Premier Alan Winde as the new Western Cape Minister of Education. 🙏

Thank you to the management and staff at the Western Cape Department of Social Development for the incredible support over the last two years. Together we’ve been able to achieve great things, strengthening the safety net for vulnerable residents alongside the amazing organisations that work with the Department.

I look forward to the new chapter, working with the officials and staff at the Western Cape Education Department to continue the Department’s vision of quality education for every learner in the Western Cape, along with the broader education ecosystem that assists in capacitating learners.

All of the best to the new Provincial Minister of Social Development Provincial Minister Wendy Kaizer Philander. I trust that with her years of experience serving communities and working closely with DSD that it will be a seamless transition as she takes the Department to new heights.
