There is something rather special about elders planting trees.

NOAH elders spent the day at Kromboom Park, planting trees that will grow and provide shade long into the future. Trees that, in time, will be enjoyed by people they may never meet. 🌱🌳

It was also an opportunity to say thank you to some of the people who help make days like these possible. Our local Councillor and members of SAPS regularly support NOAH events, helping our elders to feel safe and able to enjoy being out in their community.

So our elders had a thank you of their own: handknitted scarves, made with care and given with gratitude. 🧣💚

A day of planting, giving and looking out for one another. That feels like community to us.

Through the rubble they cleared a way for a future.
Our Harare Garden Club in Khayelitsha harvested spinach and spring onions this week and those vegetables went straight into a community meal.
Think about that for a moment. These elders cleared the ground, planted the seeds, tended the soil and then sat down together to eat what their own hands had grown.
That is not just gardening. That is dignity. That is purpose.
We are so proud of every single one of them. 🙏

This month our Athlone Centre joined a peaceful picket outside SASSA calling for what our elders deserve. A pension that actually covers the cost of living.
R2,400 a month? A grocery basket that costs R3,000. Rent above R9,000. The numbers simply do not add up.
We are calling for R5,000. Because our elders built this country and they deserve to live in dignity.

Our Annual General Meeting took place this week and it was exactly what it should be. An honest conversation about where we have been, where we are going and how we get there together.

NOAH is nothing without its community and moments like these remind us why good governance and transparency matter so deeply. Our elders deserve an organisation that holds itself accountable and keeps showing up.

If you shop at Woolworths, we have a 2 minute request that could make a real difference to an elder in Cape Town, and enter you into a competition to win R100,000. 💚

Woolworths runs a programme called MyDifference. When you select a charity as your cause, a portion of your qualifying purchases goes directly to that organisation every month. It costs you nothing extra. You just need to set it up once.

We are asking you to select NOAH, Neighbourhood Old Age Homes.

For over 40 years we have been walking alongside Cape Town's most vulnerable elders. Social pensioners living on R2,400 a month, trying to cover rent, food, transport and healthcare. We provide safe housing, primary healthcare, nutrition and a community that says you are not forgotten. More than 800 elders across Woodstock, Khayelitsha, Athlone and Stellenbosch depend on the support we provide.

The competition ends 31 August 2026. Anyone who selects NOAH before then is automatically entered.

Bonnie-voyage!
Our Head of Housing was not expecting a thing. But our Action Group and NOAH residents had other plans entirely.
They cooked up a little surprise send off and honestly, the love in that room was everything. Bonny, you are clearly very hard to let go of, even just for a holiday!
Enjoy every single moment of your well deserved break. We will be here when you get back.

This is what it looks like when the next generation shows up for the ones who came before them. 💚
Stellenbosch University medical students spent time with our elders at St Joseph's House this week. Games, conversation and genuine unhurried time together.

For older people, loneliness can be just as damaging as any physical condition. A visit, a laugh, a proper conversation. These things are not small.

We hope these students leave knowing that care is not just clinical. It is human. 🙏

Thank you to every student who walked through those doors.
