Myth: All blind people see complete darkness. 🌑

Fact: This is not true! Blindness exists on a spectrum, and not everyone who is blind experiences the same level or type of vision.

Many people who are legally blind still have some degree of vision. They may be able to see light, colours, shapes, or movement, while others may experience tunnel vision, blurred vision, or loss of central vision.

In fact, only a small percentage of people who are blind have no light perception at all.

💡 Remember: Blindness does not always mean seeing complete darkness. Every person’s experience of vision is unique.

Let’s challenge the myths and create greater understanding about blindness and visual impairment! 💙

Today, we came together to celebrate the strength, courage and resilience of women. đź’ś

Under the theme “Resilient Women: Turning the Battle Against Cancer into a Story of Strength, Hope and Perseverance,” we were reminded that strength does not always mean having everything together. Sometimes strength is simply facing another day. Sometimes it is allowing others to carry us when we are tired. And sometimes, it is choosing hope even when life gives us every reason to be afraid.

Cancer has touched so many of our lives — through those we have lost, those who are still fighting, and those who have walked the frightening road of uncertainty. Today, we honoured them all.

But above all, today was about women supporting women — celebrating one another, standing together through the difficult seasons, and recognising the incredible strength that exists when women lift each other up.

Here’s to resilient women. To courageous women. To women who hope, persevere, love fiercely and keep showing up. 💜

Cape Town Society for the Blind is proud to have been represented at the recent IEC Western Cape Disability Sector Engagement by our Head of Training & Development, Sandra Dreyer, and Zaiboenisa Parsley our TED Administrator.

This platform brings together disability sector organisations and persons with disabilities to strengthen electoral participation, promote inclusion, and improve accessibility within South Africa's democratic processes.

Sandra was interviewed by the SABC, where she highlighted the importance of ensuring that blind and visually impaired persons have equal access to information and the opportunity to participate fully in elections.

Thank you to the IEC Western Cape for creating this space where collaboration, inclusion, and accessibility remains at the forefront. Together, we can build a democracy where every voice is heard and every vote counts. 🗳️💙
