Day 3. New spot. New problems.

8 Day Rain Boulder is one of those places that earns its reputation. The rock here is honest, it doesn't reward rushing. You have to slow down, read the moves, trust your feet.

For a group of young climbers still learning what their bodies can do, this was the kind of challenge that either breaks your focus or sharpens it.

We watched them choose to sharpen.

Attempt after attempt. Encouragement between strangers who were starting to feel less like strangers. And a few send celebrations that echoed off the sandstone.

Day 3. Everyone grows.

Our second stop was Powerlines Bouldering, one of Rocklands' most iconic bouldering spots.
No ropes. No harness. Just you, the rock, and the decision to keep trying.
For some in our group, this was their first time bouldering outdoors. Every attempt was a lesson. Every fall was just information.
What we saw at Powerline wasn't perfect climbing. It was something better — young people refusing to give up on a problem that wasn't giving anything away easily.
They didn't all top out. But every single one of them tried again. That's the whole thing, right there.

Before a single boulder was touched, 19 young people were in the water — laughing, splashing, shaking off the long drive and whatever nerves had come with it.

There's something about a swim that resets everything. By the time we dried off and headed out to the boulders, the group that arrived a few hours earlier had already loosened into something warmer.

The climbing hadn't even started. And something had already shifted.

Day 1 at Rocklands didn't start on the rock.

It started at our home for the next three days. We settled in, gathered the group, and set the tone together. House rules. Introductions. The kind of opening ritual that reminds everyone: this is a different kind of space.

We loaded 19 young people into a kombi and drove north into the Cederberg.

Destination: Rocklands — ancient sandstone boulders, wide open sky, and the kind of silence most of our crew had never heard before.

Three days. Three climbing spots. Meals around the fire. A Bingo game that turned strangers into people who actually knew each other.

This week, we're sharing the story of what happened out there.

Starting today.

On 19 April, three of our juniors stepped onto the stage at the Western Cape Climbing Bouldering Competition, representing not just themselves, but their growth, courage, and commitment.

And one of them climbed all the way onto the podium, securing 3rd place in his age category 🥉

We couldn’t be prouder. Not just of the result, but of the journey it represents — showing up, pushing limits, and believing in what’s possible.

This is what happens when opportunity meets determination.

We spent time today at Big Vision’s session in Diep River where climbing is becoming more than just a sport.

It’s a space to show up.
To try again.
To be seen and supported.

Moments like these might seem small, but they’re where confidence starts to grow.

Grateful to be building alongside partners who are creating real impact in their communities.
