Masiphumelele Library -opens their doors to all who are hungry for knowledge and to bridge the digital divide.

Masiphumelele library was built by the NGO MasiCorp in 2003 and handed over to the City of Cape Town as a satellite of the neighbouring Fish Hoek Library. MasiCorp went on to build an extension and in 2010 local funding was obtained largely from Peninsula Beverages and Exclusive Books to build an Outreach centre.In 2012 the Library achieved Community Library status in the City of Cape Town.

🌸 WISE PROGRAM | WOMEN’S INFORMATION SKILLS EMPOWERMENT🌸

Today, we had the pleasure of hosting Nhlanhla Leonard (UWC: Accounting, Business Development Specialist and Digital Skills and transformation Practitioner) for our WISE (Women’s Information Skills Empowerment) Programme at Masiphumelele Library! 📚💻✨

The session covered a range of valuable and practical topics, including:

📖 Library Orientation
💡 Information Literacy
💻 Digital Literacy
🗣️ Communication Skills

It was an incredibly informative, interactive and engaging session. We were especially inspired by the enthusiasm of the young adults from the Masiphumelele community, who were eager to learn, ask questions, participate and absorb all the information shared with them. 🙌🏽

And the best part? 🎓 Every participant received an accredited certificate after completing the programme! This is a wonderful achievement that can add value to their CVs and assist them when applying for future employment opportunities. 💼✨

A huge THANK YOU to all the young adults who took the time to come through and participate in the programme. Your eagerness to learn and improve yourselves made the session truly special. ❤️

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Nhlanhla Leonard, a facilitator from the University of the Western Cape (UWC), for sharing his knowledge, skills and valuable insights with our community. 👏🏽

🌟 An Inspiring Day of Creativity, Reflection & Connection at Masiphumelele Library!*🎨🎶

Today, Masiphumelele Library had the pleasure of hosting an inspiring session by **Lalela**, who invited teachers from Masiphumelele Primary School to discover and experience more about the incredible work they do.

The session went beyond simply showcasing Lalela as an arts organisation. It gave us a deeper understanding of their work and how they use creativity, art and meaningful experiences to inspire, empower and connect with communities. 💫

The session began with a calming and relaxing mindfulness activity, where participants were guided through breathing exercises, taking a moment to breathe in, breathe out, relax and simply be present. 🧘🏾‍♀️🌿

Then came the fun part! 🎶🎨 Music was played, and participants were encouraged to **draw whatever came to mind while listening to the music. There was no right or wrong artwork, just imagination, emotions and self-expression.

And what made the experience even more special… Aviwe Mafela’s Aviwe Mafela artwork was applauded by the audience as the standout piece of the session!👏🏾🎨🏆

It was a beautiful reminder that art is not always about perfection, sometimes, it is simply about expressing what you feel, what you imagine and what the moment brings out of you.

A big thank you to Lalela for bringing such a meaningful, relaxing and creative experience to Masiphumelele Library. ❤️

📢 YOUTH EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS TRAINING OPPORTUNITY! 🎓💼

Are you a young person between the ages of 18 and 35 and looking to develop your skills and improve your employability?

The City of Cape Town, in partnership with the Community Development Worker, is inviting young people to attend a Youth Employability Skills Training Programme.

📅 Date: 18 & 19 August 2026

Time 9h:00 -15h:00

📍 Venue: Masiphumelele Library

👥 Age: 18–35 years

📌 Registration is on a FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED basis!

We have a limited number of spaces available, so interested youth are encouraged to register as soon as possible.

Today, Masi Library hosted a meaningful and impactful event in recognition of Women’s Month, focusing on the important issue of Gender-Based Violence (GBV)💜

We were honoured to have Living Hope Organisation and GRIT Organisation join us and share valuable information with our community.

The event was truly amazing! 🎤 Our host librarianNcebakazi Mdakaka kept the programme engaging as a fantastic MC. Our elders also had an opportunity to raise their concerns about various issues, share their personal experiences, and engage in open and meaningful discussions.

Most importantly, participants learned how and where to report incidents of Gender-Based Violence, empowering our community with knowledge that can make a difference. We also had the opportunity to learn about an app that can be used to report incidents of GBV, giving community members another accessible way to seek help and report abuse. 📱

A big thank you to Organisation, GRIT Organisation, our elders, community members, and everyone who made this event a success.❤️

Let us continue creating safe spaces where people can speak up, be heard, and know that they are not alone.

Together, we can stand against Gender-Based Violence.✊??💜

Today, we hosted a fun and engaging storytelling session led by our Yeboneer Xolisa with Aviwe bringing smiles to everyone's faces as Libee our beloved library mascot. 🐝💛

The children had an amazing time listening to the stories, and they absolutely loved meeting Libee! Their excitement and laughter filled the library.

To make the day even more memorable, we played fun games with the children, creating a joyful and interactive experience for everyone.

What an incredible Holiday Programme we've been enjoying at the library! 📚✨

Last week, we were delighted to welcome “Fountain of Hope” and **Project Ubuntu by Yonela**, who brought children to the library for a day filled with laughter, learning, and exciting activities. It was wonderful to see young minds engaged, making new friends, and creating lasting memories.

This week, Aviwe Mafela inspired our young visitors through fun arts and crafts sessions. As we celebrate Mandela Month, the children expressed their creativity by drawing beautiful portraits of Nelson Mandela, while learning about his remarkable legacy of courage, kindness, and service.

A heartfelt thank you to all our partners, volunteers, and everyone who continues to make our library a welcoming space where children can learn, create, and grow. We look forward to many more moments of joy together! 💛📖🎨

Little ears, Big stories.🤩🤓

Masiphumelele Library and Masiphumelele Clinic are working together to run an eight-week antenatal programme. The first session was held on 4 June. The programme centered on the 1000 Stories Before School initiative. Ncebakazi and Yonela presented on 1000 Stories Before School . This 1000 Stories Before school campaign gave pregnant moms deeper knowledge about how 1000 Stories Before School can benefit them and their children, including their unborn babies.

*Week 2- 11 June 202*

We focused on health care. A nurse from Masiphumelele Library gave pregnant moms-to-be health information. She made them aware of what they would experience now that they are pregnant, what is normal and what is not normal, and encouraged them to seek medical help if they notice anything that could put their unborn babies in danger.
