Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, together with Merafong Executive Mayor Cllr Nozuko Best, engaged residents of Khutsong South at the Community Imbizo.

The engagement provided a platform for community members to raise concerns, receive feedback on service delivery matters, and participate in shaping solutions that improve the quality of life for all residents.

In commemoration of World Environment Day, we conducted a community clean-up campaign and planted trees to promote environmental sustainability, raise awareness about the importance of protecting our natural environment, and contribute to a greener and healthier future for our communities.

Today, we proudly commemorated World Environment Day in Khutsong South, bringing together government, local leadership, industry partners, environmental practitioners, and graduates committed to building a sustainable future.

The programme was attended by the MEC for Environment in Gauteng, Mr. Ewan Botha; the Executive Mayor of Merafong City, Cllr Nozuko Best; the MMC for Environment in the West Rand District Municipality, Cllr Mantshadi Teleko; the Chief Whip of Council, Cllr Thabo Moluke; the MMC for Environment in Merafong City, Cllr Dipuo Segakweng, Ward Councillor Terrence Mnqandi; representatives from Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited led by Dr Mashego Mashego and Dr Urishanie Govender; SALGA represented by Ms Zingisa Pango; and environmental graduates.

The event highlighted the importance of environmental management, climate action, environmental education, and community participation in protecting our natural resources for present and future generations. Together, we reaffirmed our commitment to creating cleaner, greener, and more sustainable communities across Merafong City.

Yesterday, 24 April 2026, the Executive Mayor, together with the Chief Whip and Members of the Mayoral Committee, continued with community engagements on the review of the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and Budget for the 2026/2027 financial year with residents of Wards 1 and 12 in Khutsong South Ext 5.

Today, the IDP and Budget Review Consultation process in Wedela, engaging with communities from Wards 11, 20 & 23, as well as Ward 21 in Greenspark.

These engagements form part of the municipality’s ongoing commitment to participatory governance, ensuring that residents are given a platform to voice their needs, priorities and expectations as we plan for the 2026/2027 financial year.

We remain committed to listening, engaging and working together with our communities to build a responsive and people centred municipality.
