[MEDIA RELEASE]

WHAT RAF CLAIMANTS SHOULD KNOW ABOUT CONTINGENCY FEES AND LEGAL COSTS.

Legal costs and contingency fees can significantly reduce the compensation that claimants ultimately receive from the Road Accident Fund (RAF). For this reason, the RAF urges road accident victims, claimants, and their loved ones to understand their rights and make informed decisions before entering into legal agreements.

The RAF remains committed to responsive service delivery by creating opportunities for meaningful engagement with claimants and their families.

Through the community outreach programme, claimants receive information, guidance, and support while interacting directly with the people behind the processes. These engagements help improve understanding, address concerns, and strengthen the RAF’s commitment to providing accessible, people-centred services.

The RAF delivering on its commitment to responsive service delivery, joined by the MEC of the Northern Cape Limakatso Koloi and Deputy Minister of Department of Transport Mkhuleko Hlengwa in engaging stakeholders in Kimberley.

Addressing attendees, the Deputy Minister emphasised the RAF’s core mandate of compensating road crash victims and reaffirmed the importance of ensuring that services reach the people who need them most. He highlighted ongoing efforts to clear claim backlogs, improve claimant experiences, and provide practical information and support throughout the claims process.

The Deputy Minister also interacted with RAF officials, gaining insight into the work being done behind the scenes to serve claimants efficiently and effectively. Together, these engagements reinforce the RAF’s commitment to putting people first and strengthening access to support for road crash victims and their families.

The establishment of Hospital Service Centres forms part of the RAF's Expanded Service Reach and Accessibility (ESRA) Strategy.

As part of this strategy, the Fund continues to explore digital channels for claims submission, with the objective of enabling accident victims to lodge claims remotely from anywhere in the country.

This approach supports a multi-channel communication model designed to improve access to RAF services.

In the unfortunate event of being involved in a motor vehicle accident, claimants can contact the RAF Contact Centre on 087 820 1111, Monday to Friday from 07h45 to 16h00. Claimants may also reach the Fund via WhatsApp on 071 605 4707, SMS on 44930, email at [email protected], or through RAF offices located nationwide.
