The EFF’s Statement on Public Protector Investigation into Minister Gayton McKenzie on Paris Wasteful Expenditure

-We, therefore, fully support the Public Protector’s investigation into whether the Minister’s actions constitute a violation of the Executive Members’ Ethics Act (EMEA) and the Executive Ethics Code, which outline the standards of conduct expected of public officials. Specifically, we are concerned with whether McKenzie’s conduct has breached several key provisions, including misuse of public funds and failure to act in the public interest.

The EFF’s Statement on Holding Banks Accountable for High Service Charges

-It is important to note that the real responsibility to hold banks accountable lies squarely with the Standing Committee on Finance, which must take the necessary steps to enact rigorous hearings and implement meaningful reforms. However, the core problem is that banks in this country operate with severe impunity, shielded by the National Treasury, the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), and the Ministry of Finance. These institutions are complicit in maintaining the status quo, allowing banks to be a law unto themselves. They enable predatory financial practices, protect corporate interests, and turn a blind eye to the exploitation of ordinary citizens.

The EFF Member of District Councilor, Councilor Sandile Makhandula, did an oversight visit today at Britstown Ward 7. After Council Meet the People meeting in Britstown. Residents of britstown in Pampoen informal settlement have lost hope and are seeking immediate intervention.

It is the municipality constituted mandatory obligation to ensure basic services are delivered. Residents of Pampoen informal settlement are very concerned and disappointed about the poor service of the municipality. They have been waiting for houses for years and living in bad condition. Some of the residents are still using bucket systems, and it has never been collected for almost a month. Some of the households complain about compost toilet and odor and health hazards. There is no privacy; some of the residents and toilets are dirty residents would rather use bushes.

EFF STATEMENT ON RENESTORBERG MUNICIPALITY PENSION THEFT

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) condemns the financial theft by Renestorberg Municipality, Northern Cape, which has led to employees being unable to access their pensions through the two-pot system. The municipality owes R73.5 million in unpaid pension contributions from 2018 to 2023, despite regular deductions from employees’ salaries.
