Eienaar van Kareekloof Game Farm was ernstig beseer deur n veld brand naby Derby op Saterdag die 12de September 2020.
Leon Prinsloo, wat jare se ervaring het met veld brande, het gaan help met n veld brand op n naburige plaas wat uit gebreek het.

Die winde was baie sterk, en voor hy kon sien was hy deur die vuur oorweldig om hom. Toe hy uit die vuur uit gekom het, het hy meer as 60% van sy lyf tweede graad se brande opgedoen.
Annalize, Leon se vrou, het laat weet dat hy in die hoësorg eenheid is.

Leon is n steun pilaar in die klein gemeente van Derby en bid en d**k aan hom, sy familie en vriende.
Mag hy heeltemal herstel van die traumaties ondervinding.

Today is a terrible day. 21st December. This is a perfect example of how stupid people can be, Derby's location had been struggling with water but then the people are stupid enough to waste it so easily. They stole the heads of almost all the fire hydrates in the uptown.

On the 29th of August 2018, Derby's community was attacked.

While everyone was sound asleep in their beds, a group of misfits distributed meat that has been poisoned, using rat poison, throughout the entire community of Derby. The next day was a very tragic day for all the family who lost their beloved animals. Some of the families awoke to find their animals laying died in their yard. Some found their animals in a horrific state! Many, if not all, the animals have been poisoned in Derby.

NOTE: IF YOU THINK YOUR ANIMAL MIGHT HAVE INGESTED POISON PLEASE GIVE THEM ACTIVATED CHARCOAL IMMEDIATELY.

You can mix 2-5 tablets of Activated Charcoal with milk for the animal to drink.
If you do not have Activated Charcoal in the form of a capsule pill you can easily crush the tablet with a pill crusher.
Activated Charcoal can be found at Koster's local Pharmacy.
Call your Local Vet as soon as you can if you think your animal has been poisoned.

'Bromethalin Rodenticide Poisoning in Dogs'

"Bromethalin rodenticide toxicity, more commonly referred to as rat poisoning, occurs when a dog becomes exposed to the chemical bromethalin, a toxic substance that is found in a variety of rat and mice poisons. Ingestion of bromethalin can lead to an increased pressure of cerebrospinal fluid (the liquid within the membrane of the skull that the brain essentially floats in) and cerebral edema (the accumulation of excess water in the brain). A variety of neurological-based symptoms can result from this, including muscle tremors, seizures, and impaired movement."

'Symptoms and Types'

"Common symptoms of toxicosis in dogs include loss of appetite (anorexia), impaired movement, paralysis of the animal’s hind limbs, slight muscle tremors, generalized seizures, and a depression of the central nervous system. Ingestion of extremely high doses may cause a sudden onset of muscle tremors and even seizures.
Clinical signs usually develop within two to seven days of bromethalin ingestion; however, it is possible that signs will not develop for up to two weeks following ingestion. If poisoning is mild, with minimal bromethalin ingestion, symptoms may resolve within one to two weeks of onset, although some dogs may continue to show signs for four to six weeks."

'Activated Charcoal'

"Activated charcoal is sometimes used to help treat a drug overdose or a poisoning. When you take activated charcoal, drugs and toxins can bind to it. This helps rid the body of unwanted substances.

Personal Opinion:
Poisoning animals is not a joke and this is a very big crime. Leaving those animals to die like that is just sick and heartless. The people who did this most likely do not know how it must feel to lose their loved ones as well as what it should feel like for those animals. It is very cruel to kill animals that way and I send my censure apology to all those who were affected.

He was known by many in Derby's community as being kind and a friend to all.
Many knew him and miss him dearly.

Vandag is n hartseer dag, vandag kom groet ons n wonderlike persoon Tanie Nicoline. Sy het ons harte gevul met liefde en warmte, altyd n glimlaggie gehad vir almal. Ons mee gevoel gaan aan al die famielie en vriende. Haar plekkie is nou leeg,maar ons harte vol heriniringe.

Talita het in Derby vir 8 jaar gebly en het vir die eerste jaar hier op Derby nog haar Matriek klaargemaak op Brits. Sy het by Sampie Garage gewerk toe sy Johan ontmoet het. Hulle het mekaar 9 maande geken voor hulle getroud is. Talita De Bruin en Johan Fourie is op 22 November 2008 getroud hier op Derby. Uit die huwelik is n seun (Tiaan) gebore op 27 Oktober 2009. Saterdag 23 Januarie 2010 was hulle Rustenburg toe vir laaste inkopies, voordat Johan die Maandag in Sasolburg sou begin werk het.

N gekaapte minibussie het beheer verloor, terwyl die polisie hulle gejaag het en het teen n geweldige hoe spoed met hulle gebots, waarop hulle al drie opslag dood is. N week na hulle dood sou hulle seuntjie Tiaan gedoop geword het in die NG Kerk op Derby. Talita is gebore op 11 April 1984 en Johan is gebore op 26 Augustus 1979. Johan was die seun van Johan en Marga Fourie. Talita was die dogter van Ferdi en Petro De Bruin. Talita het altyd onder moeilike omstandigehede, steeds geglimlag.

Talita se kind was haar alles. Talita was n vrolike mens wat altyd almal wou help. Het nie veel inligting van Johan se geskiedenis hier op Derby nie.

Vandag sou Ferdi De Bruin 69 jaar oud geword het. Ferdi is in Mafeking gebore. Hy was die jongste ene uit ‘my kinders, jou kinders, en ons kinders’. Sy groot word jare was in Vanderbijlpark waar hy ook as Ketelmaker by Dormalong en Yskor gewerk het. In 1975 die 8ste Februarie is Ferdi getroud met Petro Pretorius van Coligny distrik. Hulle was vir 42 getroud en het baie sakke sout saam opgeeet.

Uit die huwelik is 3 kinders gebore. Nellie 1976, Talita 1984, en Ernie 1986. Hulle het 18 jaar in Orkney gebly, 3 jaar op Vaalkop, tussen Brits en Thabazimbi, en amper 16 jaar op Derby. Op 22 Februarie 2002 het die De Bruin’s hier in Derby kom bly, waar Ferdi op die Rustenburg myne gewerk het. Ferdi het 2 rug operasies en 3 oog operasies gehad. 6 weke voor sy dood het hy sy laaste oog operasie gehad.

Ferdi het sy tweede hartaanval gehad die aand voor sy oudste dogter (Nellie) sou trou. Die dag nadat sy getroud is het hy sy derde hart aanval gehad. Na die troue het hulle vir hom gan kuier in ICU. Sondag, 10 September 2017 is hy egter aan n hartaanval oorlede, nadat hy reeds 3 hartaanvalle oorleef het. Ferdie was altyd die middel punt van die geselskap.

Hy sal onthou word as n terggees, n liefdevolle man, n mens wat lief was vir sy voels, diere, en gesin. Ferdie was n familie man wat altyd daar was vir sy gesin deur dik en dun wat ook almal graag wou help.

Brenden was born into a very poor family. His mother (Hester Williams) was 19 years old when he was born. He never knew his father because he was a very abusive person. The first 2 years of his life was spent with his mother and Grandmother until his mother fell in love with another man (Brandon Williams) who soon became Brenden’s new father. Brenden’s mother married Brandon on the 24th of July 1999 and Brenden’s first sister (Christie) was born on the 10th of September 2000.

4 years after Christie was born, on the 1st of May 2004, Hester and Brandon had another daughter called Veronica. Brenden was born in Rustenburg but soon moved with his family to a farm between Koster and Swartrugens where he spent 5 years of his life before moving to Derby where he passed away aged 16. When he was 13 years old his parents could no longer afford to pay for school and bus fees so he started helping at his dad’s company at age 14 while doing studies from home.

Soon after he started helping in the internet department he decided that he will follow in his father’s footsteps and one day take over the company. Brenden’s life had just begun and he was planning on taking a few courses that will help him gain more knowledge in the field of work his father was doing. Life for Brenden was still not easy but for most of his life, it was quite normal. When he was working one day he noticed that his leg was sore and had a large lump.

His leg continued to bother him so his parents took him to see a doctor. The doctor told them that he might have just strained the muscle inside the leg. The doctor provided some medication to help but even after a month, there was no improvement. His parents took him back to the doctor who then sent him for x-rays and he discovered that Brenden might have a very aggressive form of cancer called osteosarcoma. Brenden was diagnosed with cancer on the 4th of May 2012.

Brenden underwent surgery a day before his 16th birthday to extract a small piece of his femur that confirmed that he had cancer. After his surgery, they conducted some tests that found that his cancer spread to most, if not all, his organs. When they found out that Brenden had cancer it was already classified as stage 4. As soon as they found out that their son had cancer, his parents tried their very best to do and find out as much information about cancer as they possibly could.

They decided on taking him for low dose chemotherapy. Every Thursday for 4 long months they took him 240 km away from home for his treatments. When the low dose chemotherapy did not show any improvements his parents took him to Choc were he got morphine medication and saw a doctor specializing in pain treatment and palliative care. He had cancer for 11 long months and his family stood by his side through everything.

He and his family stayed positive and hopeful throughout the entire process. Brenden passed away at home surrounded by his family.

On this day the community of Derby came together to help clean the local cemetery. Throughout the day, a total of about 25 people came together to participate in this community project. Some people arrived as early as 9 a.m. and others arrived at different intervals during the day. Pastor Etienne Ferreira also joined us on this lovely day to read a section out of the bible to give us motivation. The people of Derby who helped to clean the cemetery gave it all they have.

Everyone enjoyed the day by helping and coming together as a community. All the people pitched in by doing as much as they can. Other community members, those not involved in this project, were inspired to help with future events by the hard work and effort that was done by the people of Derby’s community. The community project was arranged by Frans Potgieter and Nicky Brand.

Nicoline kom uit n huis van 4 susters waarvan sy die 2de jongste is. Sy en haar gesin het nie swaar groot geword nie maar haar lewe was baie moeilik. Nicoline het baie operasies gehad waarvan sy twee heup operasies gehad het op die ouderdom van 13 en 14. Nicoline se ouers het nie veel rondgetrek nie. Sy was gebore in Germiston, Gauteng. Syt het die liefde van haar liewe (Piet De Beer) ontmoet in Cartonville.
Hulle is op 28 November 1970 getroud waar van 3 kinders uit die huwelik gebore is. Piet 1971, Nickey 1973, en Belinda 1975. Piet was n wewenaar met n dogter (Blanche). In 2001 het Nicoline saam haar man Derby toe getrek as pensionarise. Nicoline het in Derby gebly vir 16 jaar maar moes ongelukig trek na sy uitgevind het dat sy agresiewe slukderm kanker het.
Sy moes ook trek omrede haar man oorlede is 12 Oktober 2017 en kon nie alleen in die huis woon nie. Op die oomblik bly sy by haar dogter (Belinda) in Rustenburg. Nicoline vertel dat sy haar huis en die mense in Derby die meeste mis. Nicoline het noual van September 2017 tot nou toe, 27 April 2018, kanker. Nicoline se man (Piet De Beer) het net uit die hospitaal uit gekom toe sy uitvind dat sy kanker het.
Altwee Nicoline en haar man Piet was gereeld in en uit die hospitaal. Nicoline het nie onmiddelik iets agter gekom nie en toe sy uit eindelik gaan vir bloed toetse was daar bitter min wat hulle vir haar kan doen. Sy het gekies om nie haar lyf deur chemo terapie te sit nie. Die kanker wat Nicoline het is in die stadium nie pynlik nie. Sys n wonderlike mens en altyd vriendlik.
