GCIS and SASSA Dundee Urge Beneficiaries to Switch from Expiring Gold Cards Before 31 August 2026

Following an announcement by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) that the SASSA Gold Card is about to expire, the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), together with the SASSA Dundee Service Office, is engaging social grant beneficiaries at the Dundee Taxi Rank to encourage them to switch to a Postbank account or any other bank of their choice.

The deadline for beneficiaries to make the switch is 31 August 2026. Beneficiaries who fail to switch before the deadline will not be able to access their social grants using the expiring Gold Card.

SASSA is urging all affected beneficiaries to take advantage of the ongoing awareness campaign and ensure that they make the necessary arrangements before the deadline.
Commuters and members of the public are also encouraged to spread the word and inform family members, friends and fellow social grant beneficiaries about the approaching deadline.

Beneficiaries are urged not to wait until the last day and to visit the SASSA Dundee Service Office or designated assistance points for guidance on the process of switching to Postbank or another bank of their choice.

Act now—31 August 2026 is the deadline.

PRINCE MANGOSUTHU ULTRA MARATHON CELEBRATES SPORTING EXCELLENCE AND A LASTING LEGACY

The Prince Mangosuthu Ultra Marathon was successfully held today, bringing together athletes and supporters for a memorable morning of running, unity and celebration.

The main 52km down run from Dundee to Nquthu, together with the 10km race, attracted a great turnout, with runners showing remarkable enthusiasm as they enjoyed the morning breeze along the route.

Local athlete Cijimpi Moloi of Nquthu delivered an outstanding performance to claim victory in the men’s ultra-marathon in a time of 03:02:49. Siphamandla Nkosi finished second, while Teboho Noosi secured third position.

In the women’s race, Shelmith of Kenya once again demonstrated her dominance by successfully defending her title for an impressive fourth consecutive time, finishing in 03:24:49. Nobukhosi Tshuma took second position, followed by Jenet Mbhele in third.

The District Mayor, Cllr Mchunu, welcomed the fact that the winner of the main race came from Nquthu, describing it as a proud moment for the area and expressing his appreciation that the top prize remained within the local community.

He wished to see the event and its legacy continue for generations, saying it represents a true reflection of the values and leadership of the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, remembered as a hero and distinguished leader who dedicated his life to serving his people.

The successful staging of the marathon once again demonstrated the power of sport to bring communities together while keeping alive the legacy of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.
