Abahlali baseMjondolo Abahlali baseMjondolo, or AbM, is a shack-dwellers' movement in South Africa. It now has more than 120 000 members in 86 branches across four provinces.

Abahlali baseMjondolo is a democratic mass movement of the oppressed in South Africa with more than 180 000 members in good standing in more than 100 branches in good standing across five provinces. The movement grew out of a road blockade organised from the Kennedy Road shack settlement in the city of Durban in March 2005. It is the largest popular movement to have emerged in post-apartheid South

Africa. The movement organises land occupations, builds community infrastructure such as halls, creches and gardens, works to run occupations as democratic communes and campaigns for land and housing and against corruption, xenophobia, evictions and sexism. It is committed to building women's power in struggle and insists that the social value of land must be placed before its commercial value. It has faced serious repression including the destruction of its members' homes, arrests, assaults, organised campaigns of slander, torture and assassination. The movement is strongly internationalist has connections with comrades and movements around the world.

Today the movment was at the eNduduzweni Centre for the Disabled branch in uMlazi Ward 88, for a world environmental day campaign.

Amongst the leaders we were joined by National Deputy Secretary Snenhlanhla Mncanyana from Salt Rock Commune, Mthobisi Xaba from eKhenana Commune, Thobekile Ncwane from eNkanini and Barcelona secretary Nokubonga Mnguni.

Part of the purpose of the day was to do a disability profiling for the vulnerable groups and to support a communal garden through organic farming.
