Statement by the African National Congress Youth League
Ethekwini Region
Regional Working Task Team
The ANCYL Ethekwini Regional Working Task Team convened on the 3rd April 2022 to consider progress on the road to the regional congress. The meeting also convenes few days before the ANC convenes its much-anticipated regional conference.
The RWTT reaffirmed its commitment to convening a regional congress as soon as practically possible. A report was received on the progress of the AGMs and BBGMs that have been sitting across the region. Branches are encouraged to expedite their requests so that they can be scheduled without delay. It is the view of the RWTT that that the organization must be handed over to its rightful owners, the membership, without unnecessary delay.
On the suspension of the regional coordinator by the RCPC, a report was received, a disciplinary committee established, and the charge sheet has been prepared. The committee has been tasked serve the comrade and provide him a fair platform to defend himself. It was also noted that the matter of the coordinator has served before the National Working Task Team, and we will await the structure (not individuals) to advise on the way forward.
The recent local government elections have served as the most compelling litmus test for the ANC on the state of our National Democratic Revolution. For a while the ANC has raised the urgency of organizational renewal and unity. However, the tasks that need to be undertaken to achieve this are no longer just urgent, they are now inseparable to the survival of our movement. No sloganeering about unity and renewal will suffice, only deliberate and consistent revolutionary action is necessary.
The ANC Youth League acknowledges that this epoch needs the best cadres of the movement to take up leadership responsibility. These leaders are characterized by integrity, discipline, selflessness, courage, and service. It is for this reason that we have decided to support the following comrades to lead the ANC in Ethekwini Region;
Regional Chairperson: Cde. Thabani Nyawose
Deputy Regional Chairperson: Cde. Mthunzi Dlamini
Regional Secretary: Cde. Bheki Ntuli
Deputy Regional Secretary: Cde. Thanduxolo Sabelo
Regional Treasurer: Cde. Ntokozo Sibiya
For the ANC to truly achieve its renewal objectives it requires the development and training of a new cadre. As Lenin correctly stated, ‘Give me just one generation of youth, and I’ll transform the whole world.’ The youth have the necessary energy, exigency and commitment required for revolutionary action. There can be no successful renewal project without the participation of youth not just as passengers but as active drivers and leaders within the theatre of struggle. Against this understanding we have resolved to support the following young people to form part of the leadership of the ANC in Ethekwini region.
Cde. Sandile Dayi
Cde. Mdu Khuzwayo
Cde. Mathabi Shange
Cde. Mfundo Mokoena
Cde. Mbali Nyawose
Cde. Zama Mncube
The ANCYL wishes the ANC a successful conference which will set out a programme of action that will revive the organization of Florence Mkhize, John Mchunu, Sbu Sibiya and Wiseman Mshibe to its previous glory. The ANC remains the only hope of our people, who continue to suffer the ravages of colonial capitalist exploitation, unemployment, and inequality. Only a strong and united ANC can serve as a true parliament of the people.
