๐๐ ๐๐ก ๐๐๐ฉ๐ข๐๐๐ง๐!
Traffickers and perpetrators of crimes against children often groom their victims.
โ ๏ธRemember!
A child of any age, race, gender, or social status may become a victim of Human Trafficking.
Traffickers are master manipulators who have honed the art of fitting in, faking friendships, and getting potential victims to trust and accept them, before showing their true colours.
Children are particularly vulnerable to grooming tactics, especially when perpetrated online through the use of their favourite social media platforms.
โ ๏ธ signs that a child may be a victim of online grooming:
โข Has unexplained gifts, like a cellphone that arrives by courier or is delivered.
โข Doesnโt want to talk about where the gift came from.
โข Is getting lots of messages from someone they only know online.
โข Talks a lot about a particular adult or child that you donโt know in person.
โข Spends more time alone, becomes alienated from friends and family.
โข Gets phone calls at strange hours and moves away to take the call.
โข Is in a relationship with a much older boyfriend or girlfriend, either online or in person.
โข Doesnโt want to talk about what theyโve been doing, or lies about it.
๐These are warning signs not definite indicators.
๐ฌ Seek counseling, strive to have open and honest conversations as a family, and ensure that children have a safety network of trusted adults whom they can talk to about anything at any time.
