To the residents of Ward 10,

It has been my privilege and pleasure to have been trusted with the task of completing the 2021-2026 council term after the passing of my friend and mentor, Cllr Tex Collins.
When I came in following the by-election in November 2022, I committed to driving unfinished projects to completion and serving the areas of ward 10 to the best of my ability.
At that time, the ward had multiple outstanding storm damage projects including the complete collapse of Fields crescent, Zinnia bridge and a number of others. I’m proud to say these were completed among other projects such as the gym and our Town hall, Everton road rehabilitation and others along the way.

Over the past almost 4 years, I have been lucky enough to work with some exceptional community activists and leaders without whom we could never have achieved what we have during this time. This includes the likes of our CPF chairpersons of Kloof and Hillcrest as well as those who run the numerous area groups and NHW groups among others.

I would like to sincerely thank all of these roleplayers in ward 10 who have worked with me throughout this time.
It has been my privilege to work with these community leaders, completing the term my mentor and friend, Tex Collins started.
I thank those residents who welcomed me with open arms, give so much of their time to community initiatives and who care so much about their communities.
I am proud of what has been accomplished this term and trust that my successor will build on all we have done. There is still a lot of work ahead and I am working closely with our new DA candidate whom I know will continue to fight for the areas of Ward 10.

I am thrilled and incredibly proud to hand over the reigns to a woman I believe is the best DA candidate this ward could have been entrusted to.
Her name is Sibongile Zulu.
She has been a member of the DA for 12 years, representing our party in the UK while earning degrees in political studies and is currently doing her PhD.
A resident of Kloof who is a brilliant powerhouse of a woman with the skills, energy and capabilities needed for this incredibly challenging and pivotal role.
Over this period leading up to the election, we will be introducing your candidate throughout the ward and residents will be able to learn all about this vibrant young woman who is ready to take on this role for the residents of Ward 10 and eThekwini.

I am still the Councillor for the remainder of this term and will be working closely with your candidate and future councillor!
I am still returning in the upcoming term in my previous role as a PR Councillor and look forward to continuing my work in the council next term.

I trust that the residents of ward 10 will throw their support behind Sibongile who I am so incredibly proud to hand the baton to!
I am certain that she will represent her Ward with passion, integrity, diligence and absolute dedication.

We are deeply saddened, in fact heartbroken with the passing of our beloved colleague and friend, Councillor Welekazi Sibiya.

Welekazi was not just a loyal and dedicated member of the Democratic Alliance and our eThekwini Caucus – she was a fearless fighter, a passionate champion of our mission, and a true servant of the people of eThekwini

Her courage, her conviction, and her unwavering dedication to defending our party and our values will forever be remembered. She never shied away from a difficult battle, and she did it with such grace and strength.

This is a devastating loss for all of us. She will be sorely, sorely missed.

On behalf of the DA in eThekwini we again, extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to her family, her loved ones, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

May her beautiful soul rest in eternal peace. We will keep her family in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.
