Umlazi Must Rise

If anyone can ask you where are the offices of Umlazi Football association or any sport association for that matter, how would you respond?
We claim to have more than 500 000 youth in this massive township, but where is the Youth development centre? May be its only me who is worried about this? or when asked to point one, we will point taverns that are in every corner in our townships?
Is this township growing or perishing? According to my bible, where there is no vision, people perish.
Whose role is this? The politicians who are occupied with leadership battles? The visionless and incompetent councillors who are busy with branch mandates instead of societal needs? The social workers who are just there to keep the ball rolling? The pastors who are mainly focusing on their congregations? The youth itself who are sinking deep in social ills and drugs? The intellectual and the middle class who are only worried about their personal matters?
Umlazi is exposed, especially when compared to other townships of the similar magnitude.
In my opinion its time we put politicians aside and do what is in the best interest of our youth, and our township at large. Things dont just happen, they are made to happen.

Guyz, this boy is 12 years, just met him on Monday hiking for a lift from KwaMnyandu mall to J section. The boy go there everyday on foot asking people to buy him maize meal so he can feed his family. He is repeating grade 5 at Isidingo Primary. i went to follow up this story with his family, and i found empty house locked in J squatter camps. Parents are somewhere in Gp, granny left to Bergville, uncles are in jail, house is locked, he sleep at neighbors house who are also poverty stricken supporting 7 kids where he also squashed himself is search of a shelter. He doesnt have uniform, no breakfast in the morning, thats why he miss classes. His uniform is beyond recognition. Tpday i took the matter to the social workers at emaweleni who will be investigating the matter. With schools opening on Monday, i think we dont have much time left. I spoke to few teachers from Isidingo they gave their long stories as to why they given up on the boy. I beg anyone who can donate with clothes, school uniform to reach out, school shoes. As a citizen of Umlazi, i still have a hope in this boy. Its up to us as a society to do what it right. Lets not give up on this boy, He said he wants to be a lawyer. Please guyz, any help will do. This boy uhlwempu in a true sense of a word. i trust that we will all do justice to this little boy before he become a street kid. We all deserve a chance in life irrespective of our circumstances. This is my plea. Onezindlebe makezwe. These are his last clothes

Today was invited by one of the educators at King Shaka High School @ Umlazi to look at the classes and see if we can find sponsors who can assist. Learners are suffering in the cold this winter. We urge whoever that can reach out and help. It doesnt have to be money, it can be a non financial support like windows, window frames, doors, door lockers, etc
Lets make Umlazi schools a better place and a centre of excellence that we can all be proud of..

The issue about Umlazi illegal protests and violent activities remain a challenge. It has become a norm to arrive late at work due to roads blocked with stones and bottles. The sad part is that both SAPS and Metro police combined are unable to deal with this matter effectively, efficiently, competently, and strategically. And this happens at the expense of the community that strive hard to make ends meet, that wake up early in the morning to feed their families. Day in day out Umlazi citizens have to face disciplinary actions at their place of work for regular late coming.
In my opinion both the leading party and the government are letting us down big time.
Municipality have allowed people to build informal settlements along Mangosuthu highway. Firstly highway can never be a residential area, thats why you only find malls, institutions, courts, stations, bus depot, service stations, and other commercial zones and key essential spots. There is no way you could allow people to build shacks like it happens in A section next to Zwelethu.
Apart from that Mangosuthu is a busy road that carry lot of traffic on daily basis, we can not afford any obstruction along that route because any minor destruction causes inconvinience to motorists.
Its time municipality officials consider building other exits because this highway has become a play ground for every Tom Dick and Harry that feel like blocking the roads, and that includes bridges that detour to Chatsworth from J section, detour to Pinetown from Engonyameni, another bridge to Welbedatch straight to marianhill. These alternatives will help to remedy the situation and bring new relief to the road users and the community at large. Percival Sbonelo Ndlovu

Thumbs up to all Umlazi schools that did well on matric results and raised our flag high especially my former school Velabahleke for 100% pass rate. Hopefully by this time next Umlazi development foundation would have raised enough funds to issue bursaries for needy learners and reward matriculants that have excelled. May be we need to develop same learning culture for all our matriculants, that is consistent, effective, efficient, and introduce standard learning systems that appeal to every matriculants so we can accommodate non performing schools.

Imagine Umlazi with all the vandalised commercial zones truly transformed and totally revatilized to different and new township friendly concepts, into village malls, innovation hubs, business incubators, exhibition centres, youth centres, art theatres, cultural villages, kids amusement parks, senior citizen villages, plazas, market place, heritage sites, business park, youth villages, amphi theatre, and automotive park.
R Kelly says if you can dream it you can do it.
I dream of a crime free society, drug free township, zero unemployment rate, that is youth friendly, tourist friendly, warm, welcoming, entertaining, and inviting.
Where kids have their own skate board parks, youth are multi talented, citizens are active and participative, artists express their creativity, schools are a centre of excellence, all sporting codes are available, and there different packages for different age groups and target markets.
