DURBANVILLE CPF: COMMUNITY UPDATE & WAY FORWARD
The Durbanville Community Policing Forum (CPF) held its first official meeting on Tuesday, 17 March 2026. A number of important issues were discussed, and a clear direction was adopted.
As a CPF, we have made a conscious decision to move forward constructively, rather than revisit or dwell on past challenges. Our focus is on building a functional, accountable, and community-driven safety structure that serves all residents of Durbanville.
Our immediate priorities include:
Strengthening collaboration between the community and the South African Police Service (SAPS)
Actively engaging with schools, churches, and local businesses
Improving communication channels between residents, neighbourhood watches, and SAPS
Ensuring that community concerns are properly heard, documented, and addressed
COMMUNITY INPUT: SAPS-RELATED MATTERS
We invite all residents to share any concerns, complaints, or even positive experiences relating to the Durbanville Police Station. Balanced feedback is important in helping us improve accountability while also recognising good service where it occurs.
COMMUNITY RECOGNITION & ENGAGEMENT
On Wednesday, 18 March 2026, members of the CPF attended the Sonstraal Heights Neighbourhood Watch meeting and election. We are pleased to note that the process was conducted in a professional and amicable manner.
We congratulate the Sonstraal Heights Neighbourhood Watch on a successful meeting and election, and commend them for their ongoing dedication, professionalism, and valuable contribution to community safety. Your commitment does not go unnoticed.
Second Chair, Adv Harris, was invited to attend the Stellenberg Neighbourhood Watch AGM on Monday, 23 March 2026, where the CPF Chairperson accompanied her and engaged with members of the public by addressing questions raised during the meeting. Guidance was also provided on judicial matters, community safety, and the applicable legal framework, aimed at strengthening lawful and effective community-based safety initiatives.
We further recognise and commend the Stellenberg Neighbourhood Watch for their continued commitment, discipline, and proactive role in keeping their community safe. Their efforts are an important part of the broader safety network within Durbanville.
MOVING FORWARD TOGETHER
The CPF is committed to building a transparent, responsive, and inclusive platform. This can only succeed with active community participation.
We will continue to provide regular updates on progress, engagements, and outcomes.
Together, we can strengthen safety and trust in Durbanville.
