Keeping the Ward clean is a shared responsibility between the community and the Office of the Ward Councillor, as a satellite office of the Municipality. The community bears the responsibility of monitoring and reporting wherever a garbage is being illegally dumped, whilst the Ward Councillor's Office is responsible for addressing both the cleaning of dumping sites and the accountability of those responsible for littering.

This responsibility gets very challenging when reports are not forthcoming from the community, because the garbage tends to create blockages on storm-water drains and flooding of rivers on rainy seasons. The results can be quite disastrous.

Community members can either report dumping sites or culprits to the Office of the Ward Councillor or simply call 043 721 1980/1969.

Today, Ward Councillor Goci convened a very successful Ordinary Public meeting which addressed among some of the most important issues;

-The need to ensure that our people are not left behind innovation of the new smart meters that will ensure that residents are not overcharged but billed for exactly what they use,

-The importance of reporting sewerage and water blockages and leakage to our local office or the Municipality line 043 705 4294/5,

-The need to take ownership and responsibility of our own community and do not dump and litter anywhere around the community or vandalize community property as hooligans did to the Sports fence that was only installed in December 2022.

Such actions should not be tolerated and perpetrators must be reported to nearest law enforcement agencies.

Today, Ward 5 embarked yet on another cleaning campaign to try and unlawful eliminate dumping sites within the Ward.

The ultimate intention is that community members should internalize the culture of responsibility which in turn will make it easy to hold officials accountable.

The campaign is coming to all affected areas within the ward and members of the community are urged to join their area leaders in making the Ward as clean and attractive as possible. The task does not end with the tiding up, however it must continue with the monitoring and reporting of all who try and contravene the law by littering and dumping.
