Yesterday, SANCO Youth Desk provincial deputy Coordinator, Cde Madasa Sikhonza, flanked by RYD Member Cde Zusakhe Bekiso addressed and took part in official handover of School shoes and sanitary towels to identified learners of ward 7 in Duncan Village.

The handover was hosted by ANCYL and SANCO YD in TT Feni branch.

Cde Madasa encouraged comrades of TT Feni to continue doing everything in their power to redeem the dignity of a black Child.

STATEMENT BY THE SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL CIVIC ORGANISATION YOUTH DESK (SANCOYD), NELSON MANDELA REGION ON THE R**E CASE OF AVIWE NKUME

The South African National Civic Organisation Youth Desk Nelson Mandela Region is appalled and deeply disturbed by the allegations surrounding the case of 22-year-old Aviwe Nkume of Booysen Park (Marikana), Ward 29. We are equally concerned by reports that the matter was allegedly dismissed due to a lack of evidence, leaving the victim and the community with serious questions about whether justice has been adequately pursued.

We are further troubled by allegations that, instead of ensuring the protection and support of the complainant, the South African Police Service served Aviwe with a protection order restricting her from posting about the matter on social media while the accused remains free. If these allegations are true, they raise serious concerns about the treatment of survivors of gender-based violence and the accessibility of justice.

At a time when Gender-Based Violence and Femicide continue to plague our country, institutions entrusted with protecting victims must inspire confidence rather than deepen the trauma experienced by survivors.SANCO YD Nelson Mandela Region stands firmly in solidarity with Aviwe Nkune and with every survivor of r**e, Gender-Based Violence, and Femicide who has had the courage to speak out, only to be unheard or dismissed and has been fallen deep in depression because of the trauma caused by this grave act against humanity.

We reaffirm our commitment to advocating for a justice system that is survivor-centred, transparent, and capable of holding perpetrators accountable while safeguarding the rights and dignity of victims.We also stand with the community of Booysen Park (Marikana), Ward 29, in calling for a fair, thorough, and impartial judicial process. We note that the accused is scheduled to appear before the court on 20 August 2026, and we call upon all relevant authorities to ensure that justice is neither delayed nor denied, we also call for all members of the community to join us in the a march hading to the new law courts on the day of the court hearing. SANCO YD will continue to support efforts aimed at ending Gender-Based Violence and Femicide and to amplify the voices of survivors in the pursuit of justice.

The SANCO Youth Desk Buffalo City Metro successfully hosted a Voter Registration Blitz in Ward 30, Mdantsane Zone, as part of its ongoing campaign to encourage active citizen participation and strengthen South Africa's democracy.

Working alongside the ANC Phumzile Mshumi Branch Leadership, members of the SANCO Youth Desk engaged residents, particularly young people, on the importance of registering to vote and participating meaningfully in the democratic process.

The positive response received from the community reaffirmed that residents understand the value of their vote and remain committed to shaping the future of their communities through democratic participation.

The SANCO Youth Desk Buffalo City Metro remains committed to working alongside its Alliance partners, under the continued leadership of the African National Congress, to build informed, active, and empowered communities that participate fully in the country's democratic processes.

Today the Regional Convener of SANCO RYD in Sarah Baartman Region Cde Andisa Andries led a community march in Ndlambe Subregion ward 1,together with ward 1 Councilor Mr Asanda Nyumka to demand justice for the child who was r**ed by her father.

Residents gathered outside Alexandria magistrate Court. The community is calling for justice and stronger actions against gender based violence,this is a 6 year old child that was r**ed by her father two weeks ago in Alexandria at Polar Park informal settlement.

The march is also in collaboration with Tat Petros Majola who is the Project Manager of Khula Community Development and based child advocacy group is in Alexandria.

SANCO RYD in Sarah Baartman Region is against gender based violence and femicide, we don't condone such in our communities sexual activity with a minor under the age of 16 is illegally, regardless of whether there was actual consent, force, or coercion. We demand justice for the child restoring faith in the criminal justice system.
