For Lunathi Qukuvane, receiving his late mother’s title deed is more than receiving a legal document. It is a piece of the home she built, a symbol of her love, and a legacy that will live on through him.

Her home now becomes part of Lunathi’s future giving him the security of knowing that what his mother worked for remains within the family.

Through the Title Deeds Programme, the Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlements is helping families secure ownership and ensuring that homes become lasting legacies for generations to come.

Throughout the month of August, The Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlements has celebrated women leading in every sphere in and of the department; from construction sites to strategic planning to leading households.

70 years after 1956, that courage is now cement and brick. We are delivering more than just shelter, we are affirming belonging, securing permanence, and shaping neighbourhoods where women are safe, seen, and central to growth.
