Greetings to all students of the University of Zululand.
First and foremost, it is deeply concerning that all tuck shops within the university remain closed. At the same time, the SASKO-led SRC has remained silent, behaving like a headless chicken in a time that requires decisive leadership. SADESMO has actively engaged with tuck shop owners and the King Cetshwayo District Municipality. We are pleased to inform all students that, starting from next week, the tuck shops will resume normal operations.
It is equally troubling that many first-year students who are funded have submitted their laptops for verification but have still not received their book allowances. Meanwhile, the SRC, led by the so-called “ICE Boys” of management, has failed to act. All first-year students who have not yet received their book allowances must know that SADESMO will represent and support them until they receive what belongs to them. We will provide an update tomorrow evening with a confirmed date for the disbursement of these allowances.
Furthermore, it is disheartening that some departments have not appointed tutors despite the clear need. All faculties and departments may prioritize the employment of qualified postgraduate students as tutors. This is especially critical given the funding challenges faced by postgraduate students. Appointing capable tutors will significantly improve the university’s pass rate. The SASKO-led Academic Officer must either fulfill their responsibilities or resign with immediate effect—students deserve accountable leadership, not puppetry.
SADESMO also extends its best wishes to all graduands as they prepare for the upcoming graduation ceremony. We look forward to celebrating this important milestone with you.
Lastly, SADESMO encourages all students facing challenges to visit the SADESMO Square from Monday to Friday, between 10:00 and 16:00, for assistance.
