iKhaya LikaBaba is a children’s home located in Zululand just South of Empangeni, Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. iKhaya was founded as a home for abandoned babies but has transitioned to be a children’s home with a vision to see our children grow to maturity physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Being located among farmlands on the campus of Solid Ground Church, iKhaya is blessed with w

onderful and secure gardens for the children to play. They also have access to the church’s facilities including an indoor sports centre. As part of their spiritual and emotional growth the children attend church on Sundays. Solid Ground has a dynamic Children’s Church program for children from 3 years and older. Although our children have been the victims of poverty and/or HIV/AIDS they need not be the victims of life so we strive to give them the safety, security and love that every child deserves and desire to see them all grow to become effective and stable contributors to society. We do this by providing excellent housing facilities and the love and affection of caregivers and volunteers who pour out as much love as they can into the lives of the children. Despite the circumstances from which the children come, iKhaya is a happy place filled with the joyful activity and voices of loving children.

Every week, BB Bread blesses our home with fresh, beautiful loaves and the impact stretches far beyond our kitchen.

Yes, these loaves help us save on grocery costs, but more importantly, they become the foundation of a school lunchbox, the comforting side to a healthy breakfast or lunch, and kindness that reminds a child they are nurtured, cared for, and seen.

✨🏡 Celebrating Growth, Stability & New Beginnings at iKhaya LikaBaba 🏡✨

Last week brought a beautiful milestone for our home with Lulu settling wonderfully into the volunteer house. This in turn opened a space in the girls’ home, creating an opportunity for another older girl to step into a family‑style environment.

Unlike the main transition home, which is staffed by carers on shift, the girls’ home offers something deeply special: a mom and dad living in, providing stability, consistency, and the everyday warmth of family life.

We are thrilled to share that this space has been filled by an excited young lady who has long been ready for this next step. We know she will thrive in a setting where love, structure, and belonging are woven into every day.

These moments remind us why we do what we do with your help and investment!

❤️ A Beautiful Farewell for Baby Yam

Our hearts are full as we say goodbye to little, precious Baby Yam, the youngest child in our home. Farewells are never easy, but they are the very heartbeat of our ministry: restoring children into loving families.

With deep gratitude, we celebrate what God has done. 🙌 Our social worker, Nonto, has worked tirelessly to find the perfect match, a family who will foster Baby Yum and, in time, adopt her. This is the gift every child deserves: stability, belonging, and a forever home.

Her new parents received their beautiful gift from God... a daughter to love, cherish, and raise. And their older son received the sweetest blessing of all… a little baby sister. ❤️

Our children and staff gathered to say goodbye, offering hugs, smiles, and love. Moments like these remind us why we do what we do. Every goodbye carries both a tear and a triumph because another child is stepping into God’s promise of family. 🙌🏼❤️

Go well, Baby Yum. You leave behind tiny footprints on our hearts, and a story of hope we will never forget. 🌼

🎁 A Heartwarming Visit from Transnet

We were blessed with a beautiful visit from Olanda and her amazing Transnet team who came bearing gifts from Transnet Engineering in Durban. We had four little ones at home to receive their gifts in person, and the rest of our children enjoyed a wonderful surprise when they returned from school!🎉

The timing couldn’t have been more perfect as we were celebrating a birthday party 🎉 and the delicious snacks and thoughtful gifts added so much joy to the day. The children absolutely loved every moment.

🏃‍♀️🏅 A Wonderful Achievement!

Noleen and Luyanda had the privilege of taking part in the Northern Coastal Sub‑Junior Athletics competition, and we are bursting with pride for both of them.

👏 Luyanda ran her heart out and placed 4th in both races, showing incredible determination.
👏 Noleen shone on the track, placing 3rd in her first race and 2nd in her second race, such a fantastic achievement!

It was a truly special experience for them, and they enjoyed every moment. Their hard work, courage and sportsmanship made us so proud. ❤️

We were blessed to be visited by Richards Bay Christian School last weekend. They brought some wonderful donations and spent the day with the children, playing, baking and creating special memories together. It was a day filled with fun, learning, laughter and meaningful interaction.

Each child also received their own box to keep and store their personal belongings and toys, giving them a special space for the things that belong to them.

We are truly grateful for the time, love and kindness they shared with our children. We look forward to more opportunities to make these visits meaningful and continue creating special experiences for the children.

Yesterday we celebrated Lulu’s 20th birthday! 🎂❤️
It was such a special and meaningful day celebrating this beautiful milestone with her.

We took the opportunity to explain to the kids why Lulu’s birthday gifts are a little different this year. Lulu is now moving out and living on her own, learning to take care of herself and becoming more independent. 🥹❤️

She was so happy to receive a beautiful little bedside table and some lovely things to decorate her room. We also took Lulu to choose her own bedding as part of her birthday gift. She was so excited and happy to be able to choose something for her new home. 🛏️✨

All the children at iKhaya were so happy and proud of Lulu. It was beautiful to see them celebrate this new chapter in her life together. And of course, the chocolate cake was the perfect way to make this special birthday even sweeter! 🎂

Thank you to everyone who helped make Lulu’s 20th birthday so special. ❤️
