Today, the bowels of the earth have received one of the finest daughters of the soil, Make Busisiwe Fakudze of Macetjeni.

Make Fakudze was a woman of courage, conviction, and unwavering commitment to justice. During the resistance against the imposition of Prince Maguga as chief of KaMkhweli and Macetjeni, she stood firmly with her community. While others hid in the forests to evade persecution, she ensured they were fed, preparing and delivering food to those on the frontlines of the struggle. Her contribution reminds us that resistance is sustained not only by those who stand in the spotlight, but also by those who quietly and selflessly support the cause.

She was among the courageous women who participated in the symbolic act of protest that became known as sipho saMaguga, a powerful expression of defiance against injustice and the violation of the will of the people. The resistance of the people of Macetjeni and KaMkhweli against the imposed chieftaincy became one of the defining chapters in Eswatini's struggle for justice, dignity, and democratic rights.

Against intimidation, beatings, forced removals, and the power of the state, Make Fakudze remained steadfast. She taught us that even those regarded as powerless possess the strength to resist oppression when they stand on the side of truth and justice.

Her life was a testament to courage in the face of adversity and to the enduring power of ordinary people to shape history. Future generations of emaSwati who yearn for freedom, justice, and democracy will continue to draw inspiration from women like her.

To the Fakudze family, the people of Macetjeni and KaMkhweli, and all who were touched by her life and example, we extend our deepest condolences.

The South African government will not travel to the US to hand over the G20 presidency, it said this week.

The US will either have to come to SA, or host the next meeting of heads of state without an official handover.

This follows months of tension which resulted in Donald Trump announcing the US would not be sending a delegation to the summit in Johannesburg next week and denouncing SA's participation in the forum.
