ROAD SAFETY PRACTITIONER COLLOQUIUM

Today, the Executive Mayor addressed the inaugural Road Safety Practitioner Colloquium, currently taking place at Birchwood.

In the address, the Executive Mayor highlighted some of the key challenges faced by the local state in addressing road safety, while stressing the need for stronger collaboration, coordinated action and practical interventions to make our roads safer.

Road safety is a shared responsibility. Through meaningful partnerships between government, practitioners, communities and other stakeholders, we can work together to reduce road crashes, protect lives and build communities.

Arising from yesterday’s programme that took place in Thokoza - ward 56 , which was aimed at addressing service delivery challenges in our communities, we came across a number of issues relating to the environment.

We are pleased that the City teams have responded promptly to these concerns.

We continue to call on our communities to take an active role in keeping our surroundings clean and ensuring that our environment is protected. A clean and healthy community is a shared responsibility.

Let us work together with the City to build cleaner, healthier and better communities.

Today, the Executive Mayor opened the Councillors’ Imbizo in Alberton.

The Imbizo provides an important platform for councillors to engage openly, share their views, raise matters affecting their communities, and contribute towards strengthening service delivery and accountable local governance.

It is an opportunity for meaningful dialogue, collaboration, and collective reflection as we work together to better serve our communities.

Today, Executive Mayor Xhakaza officially opened the Councillors’ Imbizo, organised by the Gauteng Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA).

The Imbizo brings councillors together to strengthen collaboration, share experiences, and engage on key issues affecting local government and the communities we serve.

It is an important platform for meaningful dialogue, accountability and finding practical solutions to improve service delivery.

Today, the ANC-led government in the City of Ekurhuleni continues to demonstrate its commitment to improving the lives of our residents through reliable basic services and infrastructure.

đź’§ 96.5% of households have access to clean water.
⚡ Over 95% have access to electricity.
đźš˝ 91.2% have access to proper sanitation.

Our work to maintain and improve the city’s infrastructure is also continuing:

🛣️ 713 km of roads maintained
🚧 167 km of potholes repaired
🌧️ 9 425 stormwater systems maintained

These figures represent more than statistics — they reflect the ongoing work to build a more functional, inclusive and liveable Ekurhuleni.

We remain committed to service delivery that puts communities first.
