Dear Friends of the Groot Marico and the HC Bosman Literary Society
After much deliberation and debate in the Voorkamer the Drogedal Committee came to the conclusion ( with the help of some Marico peach mampoer, yes) that it is time to invite friends of the Marico and Bosman to our annual celebration again, to touch up on old friendships and make new friends, like-minded people who enjoy the work of writer Herman Charles Bosman and the charm of the Marico.
It is therefore a pleasure to announce that the next Marico Bosman weekend will take place on 26 and 27 October 2023 and that bookings are now open .
Our concept for this weekend is very much different from previous years. We would like to think about it as back to our Bosman roots, similar as to how we as a society came about. We would go for a nature walk and then have lunch around a fire and coffee, reading stories of Bosman. This change in approach is also partly necessitated by financial constraints. There won’t be as many artists and musical/cultural events as in previous years. It will mostly be us all together preparing our meals together, reading stories and having Voorkamer debates about Life and events happening around or in the past. A detailed programme which you will receive later will indicate which artists actually will perform during this weekend.
This celebration will also be for you as guests to participate actively during the weekend by reading stories which had a profound impact on your life or by telling us all your own story/experience which you want to share with us, since it had a great influence on your own life. Or bring along your music instrument and share your talents with us as a group. So this will not be a weekend as in the past where we were all passively entertained by artists but rather a gathering of friends that will share equally that which we appreciate in Bosman’s literature and what Life has shared with us.
Unfortunately we have to put a price on the weekend .. The cost will be R1150 per person and it will include all the meals on Saturday and Sunday as well as all professional artists which will perform for us. There will be some additional activities like mampoer tasting etc. where you will have a choice of participation and will have to contribute a few cents.
