Proceedings continue at Birchwood Hotel for the NLC Women’s Day Commemoration 2026.

Programme Director: Ms Happy “MaKhumalo” Ngidi.

Delivering the Purpose of the Day, the NLC Commissioner reflected on Women’s Month as a tribute to the 1956 Women’s March - marking 70 years since more than 20 000 women marched to the Union Buildings under the leadership of Lilian Ngoyi, Helen Joseph, Rahima Moosa and Sophia Williams-De Bruyn.

Held under the theme Empowered Women Empower The Nation, the Commissioner noted progress made in 32 years of democracy, while emphasising that more work remains to ensure women’s access to economic opportunities.

“It is incumbent upon us as women of the NLC not to leave others behind.”

Proceedings continue.
