NEWS: Police to Increase Presence in Ratanda Following Fatal Drive-By Shooting
The drive-by shootings in Ratanda and Extension 23, has left the community reeling after the unfortunate death of Kabelo Elton Mayisa. The incident also resulted in several injuries as reported earlier this week on Mapepeza
Local residents and community organizations have expressed their shock and outrage over the violence.
Teboho Hlanguza, a community leader and Socialist Economic Freedom Movement Secretary-General, condemned the incident, describing it as "barbaric and evil."
He emphasized the growing concern among residents about the safety of the township, which he said "is no longer the same." Hlanguza urged anyone with information about the attack to report it to the authorities.
Thomas Goreseb-Maseko, Coordinator of the ANC Youth League Ward 7 in Lesedi, praised the swift response by the SAPS, stating, "We commend the efforts to ensure that justice is served and that our community feels safe again."
In response to the incident, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has announced plans to increase police visibility in the area, information confirmed by Maseko in a statement.
Major General Lemba, the Sedibeng District Commissioner, confirmed that officers will be deployed to maintain order and ensure the safety of residents, especially during the funeral of Kabelo Mayisa, scheduled for Saturday, September 7 at Obed Nkosi.
The SAPS has also established a Trio Task Team to investigate the recent spate of killings in Ratanda.
The announcement has been welcomed by community members and leaders, who have been calling for stronger police action to combat the rising crime in the area.
Both political parties have joined the community in conveying their condolences to the family and friends of the late Mayisa.
The Ratanda community remains on edge as they mourn the loss of an innocent young life and hope for an end to the violence that has plagued the township.
