PROTECT OUR SEWER SYSTEM – DISPOSE OF WASTE RESPONSIBLY

The Municipality urges residents to dispose of waste responsibly and never throw foreign objects, foodstuffs, or waste into toilets or sewer drains.
During recent sewer unblocking operations, our technical teams discovered foreign objects and inappropriate materials inside sewer lines. These included food waste, oil, fats and grease, which can accumulate and cause severe blockages, resulting in sewer spillages and potential health and environmental hazards.
Residents are also urged to refrain from opening or entering sewer manholes. This is extremely dangerous and should only be done by authorised and trained municipal personnel.
Let us all play our part in protecting municipal infrastructure. What goes down the drain can cause a blockage. Dispose of waste appropriately and help keep our communities clean, safe and healthy.
Protect our infrastructure. Protect our environment. Keep our sewer lines clear.

ELECTRICITY SUPPLY UPDATE

Kindly be advised that electricity supply has been restored to most areas of Heidelberg.

A few areas remain without electricity due to a faulty transformer. The Municipality’s technical team is monitoring the situation and working to facilitate the restoration of supply to the affected areas.
Eskom is expected to be on site tomorrow morning to assist the Municipal technical team with the assessment and repair of the faulty transformer.

Residents in the affected areas are urged to remain patient and are assured that efforts are underway to restore electricity supply as soon as possible.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused

ELECTRICITY SUPPLY INTERRUPTION – EMERGENCY REPAIRS

Residents are hereby advised that the Municipality is currently experiencing an electricity supply interruption affecting the entire Heidelberg area.

The interruption is due to an emergency situation at the substation, where a hissing sound has been detected from the incoming electrical connections (incomers). As a precautionary safety measure, the Municipality has requested Eskom to isolate the power supply to enable technical teams to safely inspect the incomers and assess for any possible current leakage at the cable terminations.

The temporary isolation is necessary to ensure the safety of personnel working on the cables supplying the substation and to mitigate the risk of an electrical fault or potential explosion should the condition persist.

At this stage, an estimated time of restoration cannot be confirmed, as technical assessments and repairs are still underway.

Residents are urged to remain patient while the technical teams attend to the fault. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused

WATER SUPPLY UPDATE: EMMASDAL RESERVOIR

Kindly note, Emmasdal Reservoir is currently experiencing low water levels, which is affecting water supply to Ext 23, 26, and some parts of Obed Nkosi.

The reduced reservoir levels are attributed to a decrease in bulk water supply from Rand Water. The Municipality has formally requested a boost of the water supply from Rand Water to assist in stabilising the system and restoring normal water levels.

We sincerely apologise to affected residents for the inconvenience caused as we work to restore a stable water supply.

WATER SUPPLY UPDATE

Kindly note, the current water supply statys in our system is as follows

The technical team has successfully repaired three of the five leaks that were identified. The remaining two leaks require specialised equipment, and the Municipality is currently in the process of sourcing the necessary equipment to enable the outstanding repairs to be completed.

During the day our technicians noticed an immense drop in the intake pressure reducing our reservoir levels.

Current Reservoir Levels:
• Command Reservoir: 5%
• Hill Reservoir: 5%
• Rensburg Reservoir: 10%
• Emmasdal Reservoir: 30%

Affected Areas Currently
The following areas are experiencing water supply challenges due to critically low reservoir levels, reduced system pressure and infrastructure failures:
1. Jordaan Park – affected by a pipe burst.
2. Bergsig – experiencing reduced supply due to low pressure feeding the reservoir.
3. Heidelberg Mall Area – affected by the current reduction in available water.
4. Other parts of Heidelberg Town – residents in some areas may experience low pressure or intermittent water supply as a result of the current system constraints.

The Municipality has notified Rand Water regarding the current supply levels. Once the bulk water supply increases, water will reach the affected areas. The technical team will continue working to restore and stabilise the network, recover depleted reservoir levels and normalise water supply to affected communities.
The remaining repairs will continue tomorrow throughout the day, subject to the availability of the required specialised equipment. Residents and businesses will be kept informed of any significant developments and progress on the repairs.
The Municipality sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused

2. Bergsig
3. Heidelberg Mall

WATER SUPPLY UPDATE

Kindly note that the Municipality is currently experiencing challenges with the Northern Diaphragm-Operated Level Control Valve at the Northern Break Pressure Tank.

Although the valve was recently repaired, it continues to malfunction intermittently. Our Technical Team is closely monitoring its operation and conducting ongoing assessments to identify and address the cause of the malfunction.

The intermittent malfunction of the valve is currently affecting water supply to Jordaan Park and other areas within Heidelberg Town.

Our technical team will continue to monitor the situation closely and implement the necessary interventions to stabilise the water supply. Residents will be kept informed of any significant developments.

The Municipality sincerely apologises to affected residents for the inconvenience caused.
