🌟 Empowering Our Community 🌟

Ward 9 Councillor, Cllr Sonja le Roux, arranged a free CV drive between 14 - 17 July 2025, where residents of Ward 9 had the opportunity to update their CVs with the help of a professional. ✍️💼

14 community members received valuable assistance—helping them prepare for new opportunities and brighter futures!

One heartwarming moment came when a woman, who thought she was “just a cashier,” walked away with a 3-page CV highlighting her true value. She was reminded that she is more than her job title — she is capable, skilled, and deeply important. 💙

This initiative showed that everyone matters, and everyone has something powerful to offer.

Thank you to Cllr Sonja le Roux for driving this uplifting initiative!

Mandela Day – Part 2
After our visit to Ryan's House with the Provincial Minister of Mobility, Minister Isaac Sileku, we made our way to Ward 5 to visit Soul Buddies, a dedicated soup kitchen that provides meals to between 80 and 100 children every day.

We were met with the warmest and most heartfelt welcome from the children. Ms. Elizabeth Jacobs, the founder of Soul Buddies, shared her moving story of how this initiative began. We were also warmly greeted by Councillor Jobieth Hoogbaard, whose passion for his community shines through.

The day was beautifully concluded with a vibrant dance by the children, followed by a touching moment when a young girl personally thanked Minister Sileku for the generous donations.

This day was a mixture of emotions – heartfelt, loving, and bittersweet all at once. It served as a powerful reminder to be grateful for who and what you have, even if it’s not much.

Mandela Day – Part 1
In the heart of Heidelberg, a small town in the Western Cape, we had the great privilege of welcoming the Provincial Minister of Mobility, Minister Isaac Sileku.

This meaningful day was beautifully organized by Ward 9 Councillor, Sonja le Roux, who chose to celebrate Mandela Day by visiting two remarkable NPOs in Heidelberg.

Our first stop was at Ryan’s House, a safe haven for children. From the moment you step inside, you are embraced by the warmth, love, and happiness that fill the home – even though the needs remain immense.

Few people truly know about the incredible work being done here. Michelle Cornthwaite, the founder of Ryan’s House, is currently a proud foster mom to 8 beautiful children in her care – and as she says, there is still space for more children who need love and safety.

Besoek van Provinsiale Minister Isaac Sileku van die Wes Kaapse Departement van Mobiliteit 11 Julie 2025 aan Hessequa Munisipaliteit.

As Portefeulje Voorsitter van Gemeenskapdienste spreek ek my opregte waardering uit teenoor Minister Isaac Sileku vir sy besoek aan Hessequa Munisipaliteit. Hierdie belangrike besoek dien as ‘n bevestiging van die provinsiale regering se verbintenis tot plaaslike ontwikkeling. En versterk die strategiese verhouding tussen Hessequa Munisipaliteit en die Departement van Mobiliteit.

Hierdie besoek bring hoop op verskeie vlakke:

Versnelde samewerking tussen regeringsvlakke, wat kan lei tot meer doeltreffende en responsiewe dienslewering;

En belangrik ‘n gevoel van erkenning en insluiting dat Hessequa se behoeftes raakgesien en ernstig opgeneem word op provinsiale vlak.

Ons glo dat aktiewe interregering samewerking soos hierdie noodsaaklik is om ‘n veilige, verantwoordbare en inklusiewe Hessequa te bou waarin al ons inwoners toegang het tot geleenthede en ‘n beter lewensgehalte.
