Message of condolence from the Acting Mayor

We are deeply saddened by the tragic accident near Stanford earlier today, in which three children from Masakhane in Gansbaai lost their lives.

On behalf of Overstrand Municipality, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the grieving families and everyone affected by this devastating loss.

Our thoughts are also with those who are currently in hospital. We wish them strength and a full recovery.

MOVABLE ASSETS TO BE AUCTIONED BY OVERSTRAND MUNICIPALITY

The Overstrand Municipality will host onsite movable asset auctions on 13 and 14 May 2025, offering a variety of items to the public, including redundant / impounded vehicles, redundant / obsolete machinery and office equipment, scrap metal and more.

Viewing for all sites - Hermanus, Gansbaai, and Kleinmond - will take place on Monday, 12 May 2025 from 10:00 - 15:30.

The auctions will take place as follows:

HERMANUS AUCTION: Tuesday, 13 May 2025
Registration: Electrical Department, Molteno Street, Onrus

Auction:
• 10:30 at the Electrical Depot in Molteno Street, Onrus
• 12:00 at the Old Ambulance Building in Magnolia Street, Hermanus
• 13:30 at the Municipal Yard behind the ‘Store’ in Mussel Street, Hermanus

GANSBAAI & KLEINMOND AUCTION: Wednesday, 14 May 2025
Registration: Registration for the Gansbaai and Kleinmond auctions will take place at the Electrical Department, Voortrekker Street, Gansbaai.

• 12:30 at the Municipal Yard in 13th Street, Kleinmond

Lukhanyo Primary School Zwelihle Hermanus RECEIVES PRIZE IN ENERGY EFFICIENCY COMPETITION

I handed over a portable power station, valued at R10 000, to Principal Morris Tshabalala, in recognition of the school's winning entry in the primary school poster

During the handover, I commended the dedication of the teachers who guided and supported the learners throughout the competition. "Competitions like these not only educate our youth about sustainability but also show the positive impact that committed educators can have.

Mayor extends condolences on the passing of Pope Francis

Acting Overstrand Executive Mayor, Alderman Lindile Ntsabo, has expressed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Overstrand Municipality and its residents following the passing of Pope Francis.

Mayor Ntsabo conveyed his sympathy to the Catholic community in South Africa and around the world, mourning the loss of the spiritual leader.

Pope Francis passed away in the early hours of Monday, 21 April 2025, at the age of 88.

*EASTER MESSAGE FROM THE ACTING EXECUTIVE MAYOR*

This Easter weekend, many of us are taking the opportunity to reconnect with family and loved ones we don’t see as often as we’d like throughout the year.

It’s also a time when many of us will travel to different towns and provinces, so I urge everyone to stay safe on the roads. Please follow all traffic rules and take the necessary precautions to ensure everyone arrives alive and safely at their destination.

To our visitors, a warm welcome. I hope you enjoy your time here in the Overstrand and make the most of everything the area has to offer.

Just a quick reminder: Recycling is ongoing in the Overstrand. Please don’t toss your litter on the ground when visiting our beaches and parks. Avoid leaving black bags unattended on pavements, and ensure your bins are secured to keep baboons out. Use water wisely, keep dogs on leads, show respect for the ocean at all times, and please don’t drink and drive.

In case of emergency, phone the 24-hour Contact Centre on 028 313 8111 for municipal matters. Fire & Rescue can be reached on 028 312 2400, and the ambulance toll-free number is 10177. Municipal officials and other law enforcement agencies will be on standby throughout the weekend to assist where needed.

On behalf of the Councillors and staff of the Overstrand Municipality, I wish you all a safe, joyful, and meaningful Easter weekend – let’s not forget what this time is truly about.

Today I honoured an invited from Standford at the Universal Rugby field where I was invited by the rugby management to assess and see the conditions they plan on. I’m grateful for the new partnership entered into between us as a municipality and them where we will work towards having pavilions seating and a later toilet installations and construction. We’re also grateful to the private donor who has invested R500 000. 00 towards these renovations and fixtures.
We are truly grateful to the donors dor their willingness to assist us financially.

ALERT: PERLEMOENBAAI/GANSBAAI FIRE 4 APRIL 2025 @ 21:00

Overstrand Municipal firefighters are attending to a fire along the R43 opposite Perlemoenbaai near Gansbaai.

The fire continues to burn with high intensity, fanned by strong winds. The crew is attempting to anchor the fireline into the previous burn.

R43 remains open, but conditions can change at any stage.

Western Cape Provincial Parliament this evening Minister Anroux Marais of the Department of Police Oversight and Community Safety acknowledged the hardworking of our law enforcement agencies.

She highlighted the need of increasing K-9 unit in our municipalities.

I’m grateful for the additional funding of our leap programs to put more boots on the ground as we are fighting crime.

As part of the municipality's ongoing commitment to keeping the Overstrand clean, this morning I joined the solid waste team in Hawston, 4 April 2025 to participate in the weekly Friday refuse collection.

Quickly catching on to the team’s pick-up routine, as the Acting Mayor I efficiently hooked and emptied wheelie bins onto the truck and threw black bags onto the vehicle.

As the Acting Mayor I took a moment to thank the cleaning teams for their often unseen, yet important work in collecting household refuse and maintaining a clean environment.
I emphasised the vital role they play in ensuring the community stays tidy and pleasant for everyone.

Following the refuse collection, i continued my walkabout in Zwelihle, where i met with the toilet cleaning team. In true hands-on fashion, I rolled up my sleeves and helped clean the communal toilets, highlighting the importance of providing clean and dignified public facilities for all.

Earlier today, 3 April 2025, I as the Acting Executive Mayor, inspected the new office space for the Client Contact Centre and the Safety, Security and CCTV monitoring room near the Municipal Auditorium in Hermanus.

When this building is completed our response time will be much better than before as we are investing on better technology and innovation.

I was joined by the Mayoral Committee members, Arnie Afrika, Stephen Williams, and Ronald Nutt, who were reinstated to their roles yesterday.
