Getting high on seed smoking
Fernkloof Indigenous Nurseryโs seed-smoking day showed how conservation and community effort come together. Seeds collected in the reserve are cleaned and treated with smoke, recreating the conditions of a wildfire and triggering germination. Volunteers play a vital role, from gathering seed on steep slopes to nurturing seedlings for sale. The nurseryโs locally adapted Proteas support fynbos conservation, while the Spring Flowers Show Sale will offer 15% off plants from 24 to 27 September, with refreshments available for visitors.
