Two weeks ago, we noticed that Telo, the lion, was having difficulty walking and showed signs of discomfort in one of his feet. After reviewing video footage, veterinarian Dr. Peter Rogers visited DAKTARI and administered two cortisone injections to help with his recovery.💚

We are pleased to share that Telo has shown encouraging improvement over the past week. While he is still being closely monitored by our animal manager and veterinary team, it is wonderful to see positive progress.💪

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Peter Rogers for his ongoing support, expertise, and dedication to the well-being of our animals. His care plays an invaluable role in helping us provide the best possible life for the rescued wildlife at DAKTARI.🙌

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Red Rhino for their generous donation of a powerful leaf blower to DAKTARI.

This incredible gift has made a huge difference around our bush camp, helping us keep pathways and grounds clean, safe, and beautiful for our animals, volunteers, staff, and visiting children. As you can see from the before-and-after photos, the results speak for themselves!

Last week, three DAKTARI staff members had the privilege of attending the Guide Mentorship Camp, generously sponsored by and .🙌

During the camp, they received hands-on training in game drives, animal tracking, bird observation, and guiding skills. Through these experiences, they deepened their understanding of the natural world while gaining valuable tools to become even more effective educators and mentors.💪

The knowledge and confidence they have gained will directly strengthen DAKTARI’s environmental education programme, helping us create more engaging and meaningful learning experiences for the children we work with every day.👦👧

During DAKTARI’s Wildlife Crime Campaign, students explored the impact of wildlife crime through interactive role play activities and painting beautiful drawings. By expressing their ideas creatively, they are learning how to protect wildlife and become ambassadors for conservation in their communities. 🎨✨

On 20 May, we were honoured to welcome engineers from CSIR (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research) to DAKTARI for a site visit regarding the reconstruction of our main bridge. 🇿🇦

Earlier this year, the heavy January downpour caused severe damage to our camp and completely washed away the bridge connecting DAKTARI to our internal roads. Since then, rebuilding a stronger, more resilient bridge has become one of our top priorities.

We are incredibly grateful to CSIR, one of South Africa’s leading governmental engineering and research organisations, for their support, expertise, and kindness throughout this process. From providing professional guidance and technical plans to visiting our site once again last week, their assistance means so much to us.💪

A heartfelt thank you as well to everyone who contributed to our bridge fundraising campaign. Your support has already helped us take important first steps toward rebuilding and securing safer access to our camp for the future. 💚🙏
