The Mbhashe Local Municipality's Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) today continued with its second day of infrastructure project verification visits across the Dutywa and Willowvale units.

Projects inspected included the Vehicle Testing Station in Ward 1, stormwater drainage installations in Ward 11, the completed Quku to Mpume road project in Ward 21, and the rehabilitation of community halls in Mpozolo and Bojeni villages.

MPAC Chairperson Cllr Nosipho Ganda said the visits were aimed at ensuring municipal projects met community needs, delivered quality services and provided value for public funds. She added that accountability and community development remained central to the committee's oversight responsibilities.

The verification process forms part of MPAC's ongoing efforts to strengthen accountability and ensure infrastructure projects are completed to the required standards for the benefit of local communities.

Earlier today, the Mbhashe Local Municipality Special Programmes Unit (SPU), in partnership with the South African Youth Council (SAYC) Mbhashe Region, hosted Day 1 of the SAYC Policy and Induction Workshop at Mazidlekhaya in Dutywa.

The two-day workshop aims to equip newly elected Youth Council members with the knowledge, skills and values needed to effectively represent and serve the youth of Mbhashe.

Participants engaged on the role and responsibilities of Youth Council members, youth development priorities, and opportunities for collaboration with the municipality. Presentations were delivered by various youth-focused organisations, while the municipality also outlined its planned youth programmes for the 2026/27 financial year.

Mbhashe SAYC Chairperson, Mr Lusindiso Mandla, encouraged members to remain committed to serving young people and ensuring that their efforts translate into meaningful results for the youth of Mbhashe.

The workshop also provided a platform for dialogue, allowing participants to share ideas, ask questions and contribute towards shaping youth development initiatives in the municipality.

As part of ongoing efforts to create safer communities and strengthen collaboration between government stakeholders, the Mbhashe Local Municipality Community Safety Forum, together with the Local Communicators' Forum and Disaster Management Forum, will hold a joint forum meeting on Thursday, 18 June 2026 at 10:00 in the Dutywa Council Chambers.

The meeting will provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss current safety challenges, strengthen crime prevention initiatives, improve coordination among sector departments, and enhance communication to better serve communities across Mbhashe.
