Meet Caesar 🦁✨

At first glance, you might think Caesar has mastered the art of doing absolutely nothing… and honestly, you wouldn’t be wrong! But behind those sleepy eyes lies a powerful story of survival and resilience.

Caesar, together with his brother Alex, were rescued in 2021 from war-torn Ukraine and brought to safety here at Simbonga Game Reserve & Lion Sanctuary. Today, he enjoys the peace, security, and care he so truly deserves.

While he may look like he’s just lounging all day (and yes… lions do love their naps 😴, every moment of rest is a reminder of how far he’s come—from uncertainty and danger to a life filled with dignity and calm.

🌿 Did you know?
• Lions can sleep for up to 20 hours a day—so Caesar is simply doing what comes naturally!
• A lion’s roar can be heard up to 8 kilometers away, even though our relaxed boy here prefers the quieter life.
• Male lions, like Caesar, spend much of their time resting to conserve energy for when it’s needed most.

Caesar’s story is one of hope, second chances, and the incredible difference that rescue and sanctuary can make. Next time you see him stretched out in the sun, remember… this is what peace looks like. 💛

🌿🦒 **Giraffe Magic at Simbonga!** 🦒🌿

There’s nothing quite like seeing these gentle giants roaming freely here at Simbonga… and they’re even more fascinating than you might think!

✨ Giraffes are the **tallest land animals on Earth**, reaching heights of up to 5.5 meters—making them easy to spot on our reserve!

✨ Even with those long necks, they have **just 7 vertebrae**—the same as humans, just much longer.

✨ Their incredible **45 cm long tongue** (often a dark purple colour!) helps them reach and enjoy their favourite treat—**acacia leaves**, thorns and all!

✨ Each giraffe’s **spot pattern is completely unique**, just like a fingerprint—so every sighting is special.

✨ And here’s a surprise… giraffes only sleep **a few minutes at a time**, adding up to less than half an hour a day!

Watching them move gracefully across the landscape is truly one of the most peaceful and unforgettable experiences at Simbonga 💛

📍 Come and meet our giraffes and experience the magic for yourself.

✨ **A Very Special Guest at Simbonga** ✨

We’re thrilled to share that a beautiful pair of Long-crested eagles are often spotted at Simbonga Game Reserve & Lion Sanctuary 🦅

Known for their striking “punk-style” crest and piercing call, these elegant raptors are a true symbol of a healthy, thriving ecosystem.

Long-crested eagles typically raise just one chick per season, with both parents playing a vital role in its survival. Watching their behaviour — from graceful aerial displays to quiet moments perched high above the bush — is nothing short of magical.

🌿 Moments like these remind us why conservation matters.

If you’re visiting us soon, keep your eyes on the treetops… you might just spot this incredible pair in action.

Warriors of Wildlife are committed to keeping all our rescued big cats healthy, comfortable and safe.
The attached photos are from a vets visit on Sat, 28 Feb 2026 to do a claw trim (pedicure for the ladies out there).
Lily White our now oldest lion at the sanctuary was showing some discomfort and on closer inspection it was decided to book a vet visit to come and see Lily at Simbonga.
As you can see in the photo's, some of the claws had grown extremely long and were curling back and nearly piercing the pads on her paws. All her claws were trimmed and a few samples of blood were taken while we had the opportunity to do so. Its not everyday that we get to check our cats health so close up, so we take advantage of the chances we get.
The blood will be sent off to the lab for testing and hopefully comes back normal. As you may or may not know we had to euthanize Mrs White a little while ago because of an aggressive cancer and we just want to be sure Lily is in good health and not in need any additional veterinary support.
Unlike your cats at home we can't just put her in a carrier and take her to our vet for a pedicure and check up and unfortunately taking care of rescued big cats costs money and we are a non-profit that relies on sponsors and donors.
Please could you HELP us to cover Lily's vet bills. DONATIONS can be made @ https://www.warriorsofwildlife.org/donations/ from the drop down menu choose either "SIMBONGA SANCTUARY or LIONS or VET MEDICAL"
